I just heard this today, and I know there's a lot of speculation. So here are my speculations:

Smithers: I think it's very obvious he's gay. I mean, he's always lusting after Mr. Burns.

Patti: She's not married which means she must be gay! (Note sarcasm)

Lisa: She's the liberal one. First she's a vegetarian, a buddhist, now gay?

Marge: Homer possibly turned her off to opposite sex?

Milhouse: Remember the "flamboyant homosexual tendencies" comment from "Lisa's Sax" episode?

Flanders: The Tom Selleck mustache? C'mon!

It will likely be revealed at the beginning of the episode and it will likely be a rather insignificant character. I'm expecting Cletus, Moleman or Spanish Bee. They'll come out and the episode won't make any more mention of it and continue on. Hype is fun to play with when you can.

I think Smithers has come out and back in the closet enough times that it would just be stupid for them to use him...

Patti wouldn't surprise me, not because she's not married, but because how protective she is over Selma.

Flanders would be hystarically funny... but I doubt it.....

Don't you think Milhouse and Lisa are a little young? I know some people know by that age, but they normally won't say anthing until their teenagers or older.

My guess is Lenny and Carl finally hook up.

I read somewhere in the annals of nerddom...I forget where, but the source seemed fairly reliable...that it's Patty, and the plot of the episode involves her falling in love with a female golf pro, and the whole gay marriage issue will be central. Seems likelier than any of the other options, as officially outing Smithers at this point would be totally redundant, and leave him with nothing to do for the rest of the series.

They've dropped a couple of hints that Patty is a lesbian (and not just the butchier of the twins...) ...in one of the older Halloween shows she said "there goes the last lingering threat of my heterosexuality" when Homer ran naked through the kitchen - and in a later one, both she and Smithers were on some kind of "in the closet" float in the pride parade.
She did go out with Principal Skinner briefly, but told him she wouldn't leave Selma "for any man". Hmm.

Who knows, whoever it is, maybe the show will handle it well, as more than a cheap gag. Or maybe not.

Principal Skinner after his fallout with Krabapple will turn towards guys. I mean he lives at home, he was former military and umm he's very anal. That has to all point GAY.

It's "Die Fledermaus" It's from an opera. It means "The Bat". Get it?

It's a really really famous opera, and classical period piece.

hmmm, no matter who it is, it probably won't be a great episode. Almost every episode that has had a big hype behind it (ex// Simpsons going to canada) hs turned out to be stupid.

Or maybe I'm just bitter about the fact that the Simpsons should have ended 3 seasons ago, and are no longer funny.
