The shakiness doesn't get better. I only saw glimpses of the movie, had to keep my eyes shut for most of the movie or risk hurling. I did see the monster and gotta say it was very cool looking.

When i came out of the theare, my immediate thought was that Godzilla is to Hiroshima / Nagasaki as Cloverfield is to 9/11.

The only other thing is that i can respect a movie that makes people question if they should leave once the credits roll... it was almost as suspensful as the actual movie.

I must also add my approval to the bandwagon.
It was great.
Although yeah, the shakycam was horrible if you're susceptible to that sort of thing. Normally I'm not - Blair Witch didn't give me any problems, and I've never really had troubles with any other sort of "shakycam" movie.
But one scene (running through a tilted hallway, with constant beeping and a bright flashing light) nearly made me lose my dinner. I'm blaming this weird nausea on another cause, but yeeks.

Aside from that, it was great. I will buy it when it comes out.

Eh, Oscars mean nothing. Certainly worth more than a Grammy, but basically it's an arbitrary circlejerk aimed at getting people to the theatres. Juno's probably the token indie flick, filling the Little Miss Sunshine position. Whatever. It doesn't need awards for it to be a great movie.

No Country for Old Men is one of the few things I actually wanted to see this year. I'll have to rent it when it comes out.

No Country for Old Men is supposed to be really good. The Coen Brothers are good at what they do.

I saw it yesterday and I really enjoyed it, but I don't have any desire to see it ever again. The suspense of not knowing what was going to happen next is what made it interesting, and without that it's just shaky-cam and a guy whining about his girlfriend. There were some really cool action scenes, but I don't feel like sitting thorough everything else again to see them.

What I liked:
I was not disappointed in the monster, which was a concern for me going in, that they wouldn't show enough of it or it would turn out to be lame. I now want them to make a bunch of crappy, half-assed sequels so I can watch it tear the shit out of some more cities and make people cry blood. Ultimately culminating in the made-for-TV crapfest "Cloverfield Vs. Godzilla."

What I didn't like:
There was no closure what-so-ever. I'm sure that many people will like the "not knowing what really happened, mysteriousness" of it, but for me personally when I finish watching a movie I like to know what the hell was going on, at least when in comes to "just for fun monster movie," which is all I wanted from it to begin with. Hence the desire for crappy sequels. Maybe some crappy books and graphic novels too.

See the mystery of it all really kind of sealed it for me, because at the end of the day, what we saw was only a fractional point of view of the "rest of the movie." and it's a rarely objectified point of view.

The monster was impressive, the intercut scenes from the recorded over tape worked really well as an anchor point for Jason's character arc, Hud was a GREAT narrator/cameraman (funny and compelling) and there was a considerable amount of gore considering the PG-13 rating.

I think JJ and Matt Reeves really knocked this one out of the park, especially considering this movie came out in the cinematic dead season (January-March)
