The thing with minivans... is people tended to buy them to cart around their kids. And people just don't have all *that* many kids these days. If you've got two kids, an SUV will suit you just as well as a minivan, but it'll look better on your driveway. (at least, that's what I assume people are thinking.)theSuburbanLetdown wrote:I never really understood how SUVs replaced minivans. Sure they're hugse and roomy, but they have the same number of seats that a regular car has. Minivans have the capacity to carry more people. I guess it's all about image and status, yo. Who cares if it eats gas and you can't park it anywhere. Back in the "day," they were off road vehicles, but you couldn't take most of these new ones on a trail.
The appeal of the minivan to people with only two kids was that you could load up tons of stuff besides your kids in it and go camping or whatever. The SUV appeals to that same "let's go camping!" instinct in its ads, even if people don't actually take them camping. In fact, the SUV is even better, because it *looks* like something you'd go camping with and thus relieves you of the effort of actually camping.
Kind of like putting on fake-tanning creme instead of going on vacation.

what is it that makes SUVs "exciting"? is it the way you can feel the car start to roll over when you go around tight corners?
(seriously though, this is what feminists have been working towards. dads can be the one who stays at home and nurtures the kids if they want, moms can be the breadwinners if they want. everyone who opposes feminism opposes freedom to choose for themselves, no matter what their sex.
it's sad to see so few willing to identify as "feminist" because opposition has redefined the word to mean either someone who wants women to have more rights or is a lesbian, sending everyone scurrying whenever the word comes up.)

and I have to correct the seating thing. Someone said that SUVs seat as many as passanger cars, and not as many as Minivans. This is untrue. Most SUV modles are 7/8 passenger. They do make smaller SUVs that seat 4/5 passengers, but I hardly ever see them on the lot.

I miss our station wagon. It was awesome.
If/when I have kids.... totally a station wagon. It was much fun.

My basic opinion about why most people who like giant SUVs like them has to do with teeny tiny penises.

True that. But there is no need for an SUV if you're just driving around town picking up your kids.OBS wrote:Be ignorant and sexist.NakedElf wrote:You missed the point. No one cares how the damn things are put together. We're talking about what people use them for.OBS wrote:blah blah blah

My basic opinion about why most people drive at above the speed limit and endanger other people's lives has to do with having sand in their vagina.

Go double standards!
Honestly though, I agree with you.
But it's difficult to restrain oneself from poking fun at people who take themselves so seriously.
