So, if you tied a body or skeleton to a tree, would the tree eventually envelope it? :o I wonder if they've ever done this at the police body farms.

But that sign thing is the neatest thing I've seen all week!

Remember we're talking decades of growth here. And "eat" isn't a great term - enveloped is more appropriate.

If you tie a body or skeleton to a tree with rope, the rope will rot away before it's enveloped (under normal circumstances). Bones will fall off the body too. Bones may even weather away beforehand.

If you coated the bones with varnish so they would weather well and hold together, and wire wrapped the bones to the tree with some kind of wire that didn't corrode (aluminum?), then yeah. Given decades, the tree would envelope the bones.

Not the best way to get rid of a body, imho.

But it would make for such a fun story in a hundred years or so when people go to chop down the tree and find a body inside it.

They might not - a bone isn't like barbed wire - a chainsaw will cut right through it. And the skeleton wouldn't fall out - you'd just have a couple spots in the wood where that cross section of a bone was.

No, if you want a real story, immobilize a living person and tie them to a tree. Protect them from the environment and animals, feed them nutritious meals and keep them hydrated. Let them grow old with the tree.

Let the tree envelope their arms and legs.

Then untie them - the tree has them bound now, and take a photo for posterity.

Getting trees to [EDIT] partially [/EDIT]envelope artificial skeletons would otherwise make a greath Halloween theme-park.
I see it now: Enter the dreadful forest of man eating trees, if you dare!

I like the way you think :D  Unfortunately, there's the slight issue of people getting caught since woods are shrinking and shrinking. You'd have to make sure you wore a mask and gloves, so that if the person were ever found, they wouldn't be able to identify you.

But it would make for such a fun story in a hundred years or so when people go to chop down the tree and find a body inside it.[/quote]

The question pops up in my mind then, why was InuYasha not partially eaten by the tree he was chained to for 50 years O-o:

Don't worry, police would find him before he managed to accomplish this one.

I wonder if fingerprints would remain under the skin of the tree.

Obviously, Rumiko Takahashi didn't research her plant eating habits before starting work on that one.

i'll go out on a limb and say that's pretty cool, though it'd be funnier if the tree ate a sign that said "beware of trees"

Pssh, that's nothing. I once saw a daisy eat a house. It reported a taste of chicken.

Man this really takes me back to the times of Peanuts, when Charlie had to deal with the kite eating tree.
