I especially like how the spring seems to speed up as the guy turns the hoop.

Some online searches showed it apparently available as a toy in Great Britain. Don't know about the US and other places.

Science strikes joy into the hearts of many yet again!

And of course they give it an obnoxious name like "torofluxus," rather than "cool spinny spring thingy."

Aw, it won't let me watch it! But anything that's springy AND spinny has to be cool!

My brother has something like that in his big bag o' juggling tricks. It's not a slinky, though, but six rings. I used to spend hours seeing how many I could get spinning at once.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

*puts on best David Attenborough voice*

And here, we have the einstienius wannabeus, more commonly known as the physics lecturer, in his natural surrounds. You can tell, by the boring shirt-without-tie-but-with-jumper-and-jacket combo, that he is in his element, displaying his best scientific knowledge in an attempt to lure the student of the species into his web of knowledge.

Have to agree, pretty spinning things! Haven't seen them in my local toys 'r' us though... maybe I should invade the physics department, they must do SOMETHING fun like this over there otherwise why would anyone want to go there?

Okay, so now there are two reasons to visit a physics department... toooooootaly forgot the Van de Graf. Best thing at school was when you formed a long line and the person at the end always got the biggest shock.
