My wife had to explain it to me!

It took me a while to figure it out too, but eventually I realized what it was. Even then I didn't find it that funny, but with Randy being just married he's got more important and more fun things to do than make strips that meet his normal level of funniness.

Randy told me he prepped this one in advance of getting married. In fact, the next few you'll see were written by single-Randy (or randy-Randy, as he's known in some circles). But yes, he bought a laptop before getting married so that he could work on the comic and upload strips from Hawaii.
------------------

Apparently both Randy and Howard expect Rebecca to be as patient with Randy's obsessions as I have been with Howard's.
Good thing I know that she will be.

Sunday's comic seriously needs a caption. I stared at it for five minutes trying to figure out what was going on, and had no clue. Was that a bowl of cereal? What did the glass signify? And why was it drawn in three mini-panels.
Well, Sandra saw it right away. Obviously, the bowl is a bowl of peanuts, and the stuff next to the bowl is a little top-hat, cane, and monocle.
Maybe it's not that it needed a caption. Maybe I would have gotten it if I'd been able to tell that it was a bar, and that would have worked better if it had been drawn just a wee bit diagonal, to set it apart from the frame of the strip. Perhaps.
The maddening thing, though, is that when I finally got the joke, I laughed out loud. I should NOT have to work this hard! Especially not on Sunday!
------------------

Obsessions? I thought they were merely "hobbies." You know, an hour or so a week, just to relax and unwind...*smirk* Oh well, Sandra, just be glad Howard's "hobbies" don't involve taxidermy, or boat-building, or raising orphaned manatees. Now, if any of THOSE hobbies turned into obsessions, it could get messy and unpleasant in a hurry. At least cartooning is relatively easy to clean up... and I bet he always cleans it up himself, and puts everything away, doesn't he? (Randy, are you paying attention here?)
~Spit-spot.

I'm ... surprised. I got that one right off... and thought it was dang funny. But then again, I've been trying to assassinate Mr. Planter's Peanut for years now.
------------------

Hey, do you need to be family to post here or somptin'?
I wanted to say that I just barely figured out Sunday's comic with the assistance of your postings here. Man! It was a tough one. I've been looking at it for days (O, I'm soooo hungry). My wife pointed out the wardrobe of the Planter's Peanuts guy, but I didn't get that it was a bar counter until just now. Of course, cleaning the glass with a rag--'cause all bar tenders REALLY do that in front of the counter. Silly me. So... OK, that's funny. Good one Randy.

No, heck no, you don't need to be family to post here. I'm not family. In fact, I don't even know these people. I just wandered by one day, looking for a pat on the head and a crust of bread, and they gave me part of their kid's peanut butter sandwich and a section of carpet to lie down on, and I sorta just stuck around.
I suspect I'll be moving along soon, though--heard the Ladygirl say something about fleas, and being allergic...

A quick familial update:
Randy Tayler and Howard Tayler are brothers. Sandra Tayler is Howard's wife. Randy is the creator of "Randym Thoughts," and singlesaints.com, and was one of the chief inspirations/conspirators for Howard Tayler's strip, Schlock Mercenary ( http://www.schlockmercenary.com.)
Randy is currently honeymooning in Hawaii with his new wife Rebecca. Regular visitors to the board have been apprised of most of this, and so it's almost like they were invited to the wedding. Almost.
KareNin is, as she pointed out, not related. Chalain is not related either, although he and Randy did live in Howard and Sandra's basement for a while back in 1995 or 6 (I forget which).
Visitors are welcome here (and at the Schlock Mercenary Keenspot forums, where you'll see much of the same crowd). Make yourself at home... just try to keep the playground safe and fun for everyone else

Oh, Seth. It's you.
If I knew your middle name, maybe I'd have caught the "Lesterman" reference. Well, now anybody ELSE who reads this thread will feel welcome, right?
(BTW, this wasn't a plug--Randy already plugs my strip from his strip. It was just, like, additional info)
--Howard

Howard, you make me sound so foreign with the introduction. (and here come the personal defenses...) I've not only met Randy IN PERSON (ok, once), but I even got invited to the wedding (stupid URL invite). Hey, I've also written you before Howard, and you said my name sounded familiar. You made me feel all big and importantant in the Tayler family. I'm going to sell my stock in the corporation. Yeah, I didn't think you guys would ever take over the world ANYWAY!!

Yeah, Seth, guess what? In another thread on this message board, some idiot woman called you Sean! What a goober, huh? *chortle* Good grief, Lady--it's a 4-letter name! How many ways can you possibly mess that up? Man...It's SETH, S-E-T-H. I tell you; they let just any half-wit post on these boards nowadays...
