Jess sure does know how to inspire emotion, doesn't she (henceforth I think I'll call Angie by her character name)?
Oh well, at least this story will have an upbeat ending with the opening of the park and all the lives that will help preserve.

I hope Jeff knows some MacGuyver tricks, or a spiffy combat-move. Y'know, snatch the gun away, bop Austin in the head, then shoot his foot or leg. That'd work for me.
Having a boulder smash Austin completely would work too. >:/
Oooh! Finals are over! Yay!
OMG! There we go! MacGuyver's voice could be Jeff! Wait... must post on the other board!
Oh yeah, kill Austin. >:/
-Siv, mwahaha?

*chuckles* My, the relationship between jeff and austin seems to be off to a good start, huh? *L* I'm surprized Jeff was as civil as he WAS in austin's first comic appearance all those months ago. *L*
and yeah, Baby Dakkykins is cuuuute. ;)

Mel: Agreed. I would not consider leveling a shotgun at someone the best way to make a first impression.
Although I'm pretty confident at what the end result will be from this, I always love reading about the details, tragic though they sometimes can be.

I don't believe so.
Angie is purposefully trying to make Austin look very stupid and good on her. Remember the couple of strips a while back that featured er ... oh damn, I've forgotten her name. You know what I mean, there was an argument over whether it was a hook or a cross. Um ... if that's helpful. Anyways, he'd laid traps all over the place, outside park limits. So apparently it is illegal there. He'd also put his name on them, so ... ;>

Austin's not a very smart poacher. the few i've known would have hidden the gun and played dumb until the strangers left. what if jeff had been an officer? he'd have been in DEEP crap unless he killed him, and then he'd be in deeper crap since he wouldn't know there was a witness around. idiot. *L*
and when i say i know poachers it's because i used to work for the DNR, not because i hang out with poachers. ;)

I suppose this particular poacher would prefer intimidation. Actually, what IS the legal status of this sort of thing? Would perhaps be in his right, until the day the park is opened and officially off-limits?

That arguement didn't get very far. *L* I wonder what the laws concerning that sort of thing are, actually. i know trapping is permitted around here, IF you have a licence and only certain types of traps and only at certain times of the year. But the trap in the comic was like a bear trap, and i'm fairly sure those are illegal anywhere, since people can step into them. ;)
and her name is Taylor. ;)

Truthfully, I'm just using this to see if my damn signiture will actually have my link in it (didn't know about UBB).
But.
I came to this forum because I do another keenspace comic (plufim), and this forum had recent posts. I'm from South Australia, and currnently posting this using my universities net access, even though it is technically not allowed.
And its 5.35pm here. As such, I must go.
Connell Wood
------------------
Got to my comic. It's funny. No, really, it is.
plufim

Siv> DNR stands for "Department of Natural Resources" and deals with a lot of stuff. I worked at a state park, but the conservation officers used to stop by for lunch and tell stories... *L* and yes, you can. *L* Just check for whatever the agency is in your state and stop by. Or most states have government job websites. *L*
I LOVED that job, shame it was seasonal. :P

I dunno if Hawaii has a DNR agency. I think they do, but it's not as wide as California or Colorado, or somewhere where it's foresty. Of course, I'm thinking more of Park Rangers than DNR people. Doh. :P
Kiva, do you know anythin' about Honolulu's DNR stuffs? I'm currently unemployed right now, but 'Manpower Inc.' might get me a job at Verizon. Um, no offense to anyone from Verizon, but calling people about long distant program plans would give me a VERY empty feeling inside when the day is done.

Sivade> Yep, every state has a Department of Land and Natural Resources. Just take a look in the Honolulu phonebook under the State Government pages for the DLNR and you might find what you're looking for.
Hawaii accounts for a huge percentage of North America's endangered species. Mostly because the islands are so isolated, there's wildlife here that isn't found anywhere else. So yes, it's just as prevelent here as anywhere else, just maybe doesn't deal with the traditional wolves, bears, and cougars that are found elsewhere.
Other than that, there's also a Hawaii chapter of the Nature Conservancy.
http://www.tnc-hawaii.org/
Take a look, maybe it's what you're looking for.
------------------

Kiva, you rule! Thank you for the website n' stuff. Now I just gotta figure out what I'd be good at to Volunteer, and the hours of such a thing. Too bad it's only volunteer. Most things like that are, but it's okay. Just gotta work it around my schedule, I suppose. My 'supposed' schedule that is.
OMG. Angie rules so badly. Tonight's comic strip rocks. Thump Austin on the head with... I dunno, but she thumped him good! YAY!! I may sound like a cornball when typing all this, but... I'm very happy.
-Siv, happy wolf or panther.

Poachers should spend their life building new technology to imitate real life. They should go into the science industry and begin to experiment with nano-fiber replicators (or insert other fancy words). Basically they get -really- smart and build a invention that will make them look-a-like pelts that they could sell to the less smarter thugs that dare to BUY pelts in the first place.
Basically, it's a replicator, sorta. Only it can go beyond the manufacture of pelts and could... *gasp* Repair leather car seats! There's a fortune to be made here WITHOUT killing animals. Whee.

I'd like Jeff's boots though. If they can absorb the power from one of those traps, I'd like them on MY feet too. Either that, or Austin (being the dull knife he is) didn't sharpen the 'teeth'. But that's something I don't want to begin to think on. Bleh.
What's the DNR? Is it against Poaching? Can I join?
-Siv

Thread drift... One of the wonders of the internet. *L*
And let the records show that Dakota's Ridge may have gotten the DLNR another volunteer... Wouldn't it be an interesting idea to link to such organisations somewhere from the main page or something? Would there be some legal problem doing that?
