I want to add a gallery, what do you use?

Postby Adorabledesolation on Sun Jun 12, 2011 2:40 pm

I want to add a gallery page to Adorable Desolation. There are some interesting looking scripts that might work. I've been wondering what everyone else is doing.
Some people just link to a Devientart account, but I really want a dedicated gallery page right on my site.
So.... who has a gallery and what do you do?
Advice is super welcome.

I just added my gallery page a few days ago. I went around and looked at some sites that I liked the layout of, and used their source code as a reference. Of course, it's nothing excessively fancy, just a matter of creating your own thumbnails and so forth. The whole process start to finish (including times I messed up and had to rename files and so forth) took me probably no more than two and a half hours, and I am very slow at coding.

Don't kid yourself, friend. I still know how.

I can't believe I missed this: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=75571&hilit=galleries
I'm thinking I may try to figure out lightbox it seems to do what I want. Anyone here use lightbox or lightbox 2? Do you have words of wisdom to impart?

I absolutely love Lightbox 2 — it's the easiest possible way to drop several images into a page and click through them. Of course, you still have to go through the hassle of creating thumbnails, if you want them.

Thanks. I'm going to check it out. It looks like it will do what I want. :)

I found something, I didn't know this but Deviantart has something called daportfolio. It looks extremely "lightboxy."
I'll have my extra stuff posted in daportfolio until I get lightbox2 up and running. If anyone wants to see it, I'm calling it Adorable Gallery.
It looks much better than the standard deviantart page. You're only allowed 100 pieces in your gallery, I'm not even close to my limit.
