Allright, I know what a laser sounds like, or rather, what it should sound like, but I just can't seem to get it right. Fzzr, Bzzr, Zzzz, they all just seem a little off once they get to letters.

Does anybody have any advice? For laser noises or just any onamonapia in general.

Picture for context:

Well, here'z what I'm using:

But then, I'm going for that "Star Wars" feel; I think you're after something else entirely...

Quick blasts: p-chew!
Longer blasts: The one with all the z's, or a more retro feel, YERYERYERYER
Low frequencies: WUBWUBWUBWUBWUBWUB

But I know what you mean, when you write them down, they seem silly. It's like asking someone to describe the delicious turkey dinner they just ate using only tap dancing.

You can always use "LAZER LAZER LAZER" if you study at the School of Redundant Verbs & Sound Effects

I'm surprised that this hasn't brought RKolter out yet. :D

See if you can scare up some Dr. who comics, lots of retro style sound effects in those.

BTW, the word you're looking for is onomatopoeia, which doesn't sound anything like what it means.

Continuous lasers I like to use "VREE" short lasers are "ZANG" "Zap" or "ZAPOW" and my personal favorite Megaman Charge shot lasers are "BREEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee KASHOOM!" Though I hardly get to use them since almost all the firearms are oldschool real world guns in my comic, which get a typical "BANG" "BLAM" and "RATTATTATTA" for thier sound effects.
