Noses: Nostrils or not to Nostril?
How many people here actually draw nostrils?

Depends on the angle and the level of detail.
I tend to prefer to smooth things over rather than get more detailed, but in a drawing with some degree of realism, sometimes nostrils just fit better. If you're looking down on or directly at the face, you wouldn't see them, but if you have an angle from below, especially a close-up, it makes more sense.
That said, I don't give characters in Thatguy nostrils. I think of them as something between real people and muppets and draw them as such.

I only really draw them when looking at somebody from below, even them the distance involved would mean that I would only draw the impression of the nostril. The only time I could see myself trying to draw detailed nostril would be a close up of somebody's nose, and I can't see that happening too often.

I draw nostrils at extreme close range, or when looking up at a character from fairly close. Otherwise, I keep my noses are really simple.

I draw nostrils. It's taken a lot of practice to get them to look right, but I've gotten pretty Ok at doing 'em.

It really depends on the style. You can try one in pencil and see if it makes the face look too crowded.

Depends on the style, and more importantly, the angle.

I'll draw one nostril as a little line or curve with the nose. Not giant hole...That looks wierd on a cartoon. But those one stroke noses with no nostrils( anime-like) look wierd too. So I choose a middle ground. Unless I'm trying to be super realistic, or something...which I never am.
But I don't have to worry about that in my current comic....

Depends on (1) how close a character is to the camera, and (2) the angle at which the shot is taken. Also, there are some characters that have larger nostrils, and others who have tiny ones that I just don't bother to draw in most panels.
