Website Design Opinions

Post by Joel Fagin »

I don't usually do this but I have my reasons... *washes hands in invisible soap, cackles and generally makes it seem more sinister than it is*

Ahem. Anyway, I'm redesigning my tutorial pages coz, basically, I never actually designed them in the first place but rather just sort of threw them together, and I'd like any comments/criticisms/chocolate before I irevocably convert things over.

Neither of these is yet fully operational, mind.

<a href="http://www.between-worlds.com/!junk/tutetest/">New tutorial hompage</a> and <a href="http://www.between-worlds.com/!junk/tut ... .html">new tutorial page</a>

(And here's the old tutorial hompage and an old tutorial sample for reference - as if there wasn't a great big link in my sig.)

The new ones look as good as the old version.

The way that the content links to the other areas are there on the right instead of having to hit the back button for the contents page everytime makes the site feel more accessible.

All is good.

What happened to the hat on your smiley, heheh. Well, I think that the new design is definitely easier on the eye. In the old design the black and the boxed in text for the tutorial made it contrast just a little too much for my tastes.

I haven't read your tutorials before, and seeing the new design made me read all the way to the bottom so I guess that's good, although I might have done so on the old design as well, I dunno.

I know that you said that this was more for design purposes, but you will probably want to verify links as you're changing it around as I came across at least one dead one.

Overall, they both look nice, but the newer design is definitely more eye pleasing.

I'm really enjoying the irony of this post...

That JF logo is brilliant. And as stated above, the color is a lot better.
My only suggestion would be to make the links for the tutorials a little bit bigger. I dunno, it just seems like they don't stand out enough as the main feature of the site. It really isn't a big deal though. But I thought it would be best to point out something constructive, as nice as compliments are.
