How good are your eyes?

Post by Hale »

This is Wednesday's comic strip for TofuStyle, but this one's a bit tricky. It's my fault though... sorry. I didn't illustrate things well enough. Anyway, I wanted to test to see how many people would get what's happening here, because I don't want to underestimate all of your keen senses

So that I can get a better understading of how people pick details up in comics, please don't give it away.

If you can get what's going on, please just say "ye"
If you don't, say "nay"

... or something to that effect.

current head count (7:23am EST)
6 "ye"
11 "nay"

haha Steve has really squinty eyes. I modeled him after John Wayne, but I think he turned out more like Solid Snake.

That makes 1 nay...

Nope, it's not about the cigarette. I know what you're thinking: "Someone's smoking in a comic, BUT NOT TO LOOK COOL?!"

2 nays

I'm not sure what this thing I'm supposed to be seeing is...so nay I guess. But then, my eyes are legitimately lousy, so I have a good excuse.

It's entirely possible that I've seen "it"

But considering that I have no idea what "it" is, I really can't be too sure on that score.

well, this should clear it up, hopefully without giving it away. "IT" is in the second and fifth frames.

I'm not sure whether it's good or bad that it's not so obvious. It's interesting becase at fist, Steve doesn't see it and he's only able to pick it up because of those "alert" senses of his (and those squinty eyes). It'll be obvious what's happened in the following strip though. I just hope readers figure out the corrolation between the two strips when browsing through my archives.

Anyway, you guys are helping. Don't feel bad, these are good responses and they're helping me. What you see is my fault, the good and the bad. I'm definately willing to take credit for the sweet reflections in the floor.

I think I got it.

It was quite obvious what was supposed to happen, BUT it took me a while to find it on the picture.

I'll PM you the details.
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

Okay, I saw it in the final panel but not in the second. The problem being that I'm using a laptop with the intensity turned down. I had to turn it all the way up and re-angle the screen in order for it to be visible.

You know, weirdly enough, I think I saw "IT" in the second frame but not in the fifth one...

I can see it in the second frame, but it's so dark I had to sit up and look at my crystal screen at an angle.

It took me too long to notice it. You might want to make it a little more obvious.

Is that thing on the lid of the lighter supposed to be its reflection?

I can't see it in the second panel unless I make my screen so bright that black is grey. You need more contrast ni that panel.
I remember caring... It was nice.
