K. First, I'll assume to start that this wasn't drawing from somebody else's artwork.

That right leg is twisted wrong. You've drawn the knee from below yet it's obviously slightly behind so the knee would be seen from above. This is only part of the problem, though. You have the bent knee, which should be forward, behind and the straight leg in front. The bricks/rubble that he's standing on are also backward. The forward leg is standing on bricks stacked behind the floor.

The muscles of his legs and his biceps don't look like muscles. They look like balloons. It's hard to see how the left leg meets the hip.
Use Photo References!

The thing that always bugged me about Wolverine is that his claws are attached to the back of his hand. They're stored in his wrist yet they don't actually make sense how they're attached. The movie did a good job, having the claws come out between his fingers, though I guess it doesn't matter. If the claws are coming out, they'll push his wrist into the right position.

Your shading is great! However, you do need to work on your anatomy so the shading has something good to sit on.

Drizzt Do'Urden

Hi guys.

Here is a warm-up sketch that I did of the most famous (or is it infamous???) dark elf in the known multiverse.

Let me know what you think, I might turn it into a "real" drawing depending on the feedback.

Hope you guys like it.

All you people who've never heard of drow and all that... I'm deeply shamed and I'm sure Komiyan would agree...

OUR AVATARS are doth'ub drow.

I mean, sheesh.

Now, Zhen... I must say that your art makes me thoroughly geek out. VERY impressive (although I always thought Bruenor's beard was long enough to tuck into his belt  ) On Drizzt, you'll need to shade his skin a little more. It looks like it could be normal color.

Other than that, I'd say these drawings are awesome, and, frankly, beyond my abilities to critique.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Good. Good. Good. And good!

You clearly know how to draw the actors of whatever 2D play you decide to put them in. From here my biggest criticism is that they look generic and stiff. Find ways to make the characters more unique and alive. Generic fantasy characters have been done to death. As good as you are you will find that you may still get your butt kicked by a much less tallented artist whom makes more animated characters.

Take the elf for example. Very well drawn. I may end up killing you and eating your brain so that I may assimilate your tallent. However the pose and expression don't show anything about the character's personality that we haven't seen a hundred times before. In fact, I'd say the pose is a little cheescake. What does the character do normally? What is it like to have a beer with him? What kind of booty does he like? I just can't tell. All I see is a generic angry elf.

Look at any frame of THIS comic.

You can always tell what his characters are like, even whith each frame taken in isolation. Once you get that down, you'll have it made. Try drawing in a more cartooney style. Chibi, dysney, Dexter's Lab, anything that places a higher value on the expression and humor of the moment than the technical accuracy of the art.

Once you can combine the two well enough you'l make art that is not just good, but truly likeable. Do that, and you won't be able to fend off the money and hookers even with a 10 foot pole.

Good luck!

There's something weird with the second page. It looks like the guy who kicks the door open already has a foot inside?!

It's like an obvious mistake in a movie. It makes you go "uh?!" and ruins the illusion. I found the situation funny ("he's kicking a door in from the inside!") rather than dramatic. I find the art very good, so mistakes like these stand out even more.

i feel the opposite, in that the art's awesome and way better than i can do so focusing on small mistakes is just nitpicking. and also, i was so impressed with the detail in that page that i didn't notice the foot placement until you brought it up.

it's up to zhen to decide how important it is though and if it justifies fixing it. he probably scrutinizes his art more than anyone.

I'll take a bite at it.

Again, your shading is dramatic in an awesome way. You still need to work on proportion, foreshortening and if that's cut and paste, you need to stop.

Page 1, I'm not sure what's happening in this. I assume the text will get the reader involved better. The horns growing through the guy's coat look like they've been glued to the outside of the coat, a common problem with superhero-type comics. The characters are drawn naked with flowy lines indicating capes and cool jackets and then you draw lines over a naked body to represent cuffs and neck lines. Page 3 is the first time you can really see that the horn thingys are really torn through the fabric. However, the fabric still falls as through it was draped over a shoulder.

Page 2, Doors DO NOT Shatter no matter how hard you hit them with a foot. If the door is more solid than the bolt, hinges and door frame, the door will remain intact and the hinges will break as the door flips and tumbled into the room. If the frame is weak, it will break as the bolt tears through it and the door will slam open. If the door itself is weak (such as an interior door, not an exterior door), he's very likely to just put his foot through it rather than busting it down. It might be possible to tear the bolt out of the door with a good hit, but you're more likely to tear up the frame rather than the door.

Wood breaks with the grain. If it's a real wood door and not plywood, it will not break lengthwise unless it's hit with a very wide blunt force and both the top and bottom are braced. If the board cannot break with the grain, you're more likely to loosen nails than break it against the grain, however, a single board hit in the middle might crack against the grain if you hit it hard enough.

The two guys on the bottom left and bottom right have eyes the size of your fist. Based on the angle you have their faces, those are very wrong.

Page 3, Good, except the last panel where the guy is leaping. He looks wrong and that usually means something is wrong. I just can't see what.

Page 4, I like the sillohuetted onlookers in panel 2. That's awesome.

Page 5, ugh. No. maybe panels 3-6 work, but having 4 cut and paste panels is overkill.

Your shading and the detailed backgrounds are both very impressive!

I agree with previous comments that you need to work on porportion and foreshadowing on your figures. The shattering door is just... wrong. The cut and paste scene on the last page was like a visual stutter.

You do a really good job of conveying emotion with the characters' expressions, but all their faces look the same. Like the same guy with different wigs and costumes, basically. I'd like to see more individuality.
