speech bubbles

Post by LibertyCabbage »

Recently I started doing the lettering in MSPaint instead of writing it by hand (I haven't put those on my site yet though cuz I have a backlog.) However I've been drawing the speech bubbles and I'm not pleased with how they look and I'd prefer to do computer made bubbles like a lot of comics do. Is there a program I can download to do this easily? And yeah that would include pirating ---- YAAAAAAAAARGGHHHHHHHH

Most people use Photoshop to do the bubbles...at least that's what I use.

I learned to make decent speech bubbles with this tutorial. But I use Paint Shop Pro 7 in place of PhotoShop. Is just the same, the only thing that changes is that I make the borders with shadow.

Any graphics program that supports layers (ie. almost everything but MSPaint.. sorry) should be capable of making decent speech bubbles. Try GIMP. [100% free]

Actual tutorials for making speech bubbles are plentiful. And while most of them were written for Photoshop, adapting them to another program isn't all that difficult.

I like handrawn speech bubbles the best.

Actually, I like handrawn anything the best. For a kid that grew up drawing on an Apple II, I'm kind of a luddite.
Boo for computer graphics!

(Except coloring. Hooray for computer coloring.)

i remember being able to do speech bubbles in paint, you just have to be more careful and ready to use your undo button. just make the outline around the text and fill. then draw a little tail thing coming off the end.
course I always went over the rest of my sketch too, so it would look finished, so if you leave it sketchy I can see why you wouldn't like a paint speech bubble over it.

Speech bubbles in paint will only end in headache for you and your readers, as most people have been saying to you, a halfway decent graphics program (ex: not paint), would make it much better. As for a tutorial makeshiftmiracle.com has some good tips on doing bubbles in Photoshop and there are numerous others for other programs floating around in the keenspace forums and elsewhere on the internet.

Hand drawn here as well. While computer bubbles are nice and smooth, hand drawing them has the advantage of being easier to modify. When hand-drawing, I can do everything I want to with my bubbles (putting stuff in front of them, shaping them oddly, etc) without having to fuss with PSP for hours just to make one stupid bubble turn out the way I want it. Then again, I am pretty bad with computer graphics.

Bwahahaha, I am not alone in the hand drawn bubble department. And A.N.T. is now bookmarked by the way. Good stuff!
