I just looked through this thread and I just wanted to say that you are all amazingly awesome at digital coloring and I envy you all immensely. I usually get flustered at Photoshop for being so "complex" and go color my comics in Flash. So, thumbs up!

I'm... getting envied?
...must be doing something right, then.

Ha, that's funny--I messed with flash, got flustered because it was too "complex" and went to do my "art" with PhotoShop.

Hey, everyone... To keep the topic running, I have some lineart.
I already colored it:
I know; it's small, but I have it bigger on my DA:

Enjoy.

I just colored Soap Committee's Fullmetal Alchemist fanart:

If you don't see it, click here:

Hehe, it took me about 5 hours to do... ^_^; I used bluebug's fire tutorial for the letters and Soap Committee's lineart kicks. A lot. LOTZ.
Hey, is there anything I need to work on? I'm kinda new with photoshop and stuff... Advice would be awesome! ^_^

Wow! - there is some really nice artwork in here! - My question is though
Are those line arts straight from pencil and scanned in? - And if thats a nice sparkly yes, then how did you get the lines so clean? My lines always look like someones attacked them with 15 pencils held in one hand..

Take this for example - (and yes, there is tonnes of stuff wrong with this picture! I can always spot my mistakes, but never fix them..Lol. i need to draw more and just practice!)

I would check out your example if the hotlinked pic showed up. If you want advice on how to clean up scans, this tut could be of use -

I think people usually use ink, or draw it directly from the computer. But the majority ink it. Then, they clean it up using the computer, since photoshop has special effects and such.

It really depends on the look you're going for. Coloring pencils is more difficult than inks because pencil doesn't scan as cleanly and usually requires touching up. Some people use them, albeit with adjustments. (
http://www.megatokyo.com) Then there are folks who use a brush, (
http://www.wapsisquare.com) those who ink with pens, (
http://www.brunostrip.combruno.html) those who scan pencils in and ink/paint ontop of them, (
http://www.penny-arcade.com) those who draw in Flash using a tablet, (
http://www.starslipcrisis.com) those who draw in Illustrator using a mouse, (
http://www.reallifecomics.com) and some who use clipart (

Nicely said. I think it depends on how the artist feels is a good way to draw their comic. Almost like the personality of the comic.

I just found this tonight. Love it.
Also, I like the tablet stuff. If you are don't like your tablet, you certainly are welcome to invite me to take it off your hands.
Here's some simpler lines. I really want to see what some of you come up with for it. Some of you, I think, are insane. Not necessarily in any kind of good way, either.

Heres what I did with it. I'm just a simple two tone kind of guy, I guess.
