Townies: All that and a bag of chips

I've run into some issues with my ftp and I'm still waiting for a kind admin. to take pity on this poor soul and save my webspace. But, in the down time, I finally figured out my freeservers space I got many moons ago. It took me forever to get the first page up, but every update since then has been moving faster and getting easier.
If I get my keenspace back up, I'll use it to conserve space but I might use the freeservers site as a link or holding place or something. But if the freeserver's site get full before keenspace gets repaired, I'll probably just register a name and try my hand at autokeen lite again. Any who, I'd like anybody and everybody to check out my strip at http://www.townies.8m.com
As far as drawing style goes, don't expect me to change much because I started drawing this way to rebel against drawing instructions in the past. I change the way I draw each strip because I'm trying to find a format that works with my comfort level and time schedule. The first strips took several days to get in a finished state whereas some took between 20 minutes and 2 hours. I'm not a huge fan of rulers, though I also don't like images slurred together so much, so I'm probably gonna reach a middle ground somewhere.
About half the characters are firmly defined in my brain, but the other half are still introducing themselves to me, so I'm not sure where the writing is. I just try to be different with it and sometimes funny or smartaleck doesn't really define it. I think it works, though.
But if anyone has any comments, good or bad, or comparisons to other work I should check out, I'm more than eager to hear.

So - um - if you're not really taking suggestions, what's the point of asking? It's a nice strip and all; some are very witty, etc, although you could stand to use a computer font for dialogue (like Jack refuses to do). Also, if there is any way to get rid of the pop-up ads WOULD YOU PLEASE DO IT NOW?!?!?

Thank you.

I never said I wouldn't take suggestions. I just meant expect me to take them in a different way than you'd think. For example, I've been told numerous times to change the way I fill in space because all the wavy lines make the background look like it's moving. Personally, I like the effect and think it's pretty unique to my work. I've even gone so far as to abstract other aspects of my drawing to emphasize this.
Anyway, comments and suggestions are welcome. If I think you make a valid point, especially considering writing or characterization, I'll take it into consideration. However, if the strip erks you because it doesn't look like your regular comic, don't expect me to make drastic changes. But thanks for the overall commentary about the writing and that it looks ok as a unit. Sequential art is something I've had issues with and it's good to see it works so far.
As for lettering, I've tried various fonts but I really didn't like any of the ones I've tried yet. I think my handwriting is an interesting font which seems to complement the art, though my Rs look like Vs and my Ns look like Us. I've noticed a difference, though, as I've started using different pens to give the lettering a bolder outline. I also despise pop up ads, and since I have to visit the site more than anyone else to update it, my tolerance for them grows thinner every day. But, for now I'll put up with them. Freeservers just adds 2 letters to a URL and it's cheaper than registering a domain for now. Once it's full I'll probably take the leap and register, if anyone really visits the site. But only time will tell.

As far as fonts are concerned, try Chasm or Comic Sans MS. They look "friendly" enough for a lighthearted comic like yours. Also, I wasn't criticizing your art at all (I get enough crap like that from my classmates). Do it as you like, and see where it gets you.

ditto on kill the pop-ups

I started browsing through it,
after few pages I went to close the popup windows,
and I accidentaly closed your page along with them.

I didn't bothered to go there again.

I don't like your art.
Eyes look like ripped from SouthPark, ><
and noses looking like ( starting above the forhead look stupid.
you want to fight?
well, bring it on!

Ah, the first negative comments... just for future refference, there is nothing I can do about the pop ups right now. I'm on a freeservers page and they add them automatically. I tried to set it so the ads just appear on the top of the pages, but they still pop up. I might register a domain after this site runs out of space, but not until then. It gives me 20 megs and right now I'm just over 2.
I don't expect too many people to like my art for different reasons, but some drawings do look better than others. I'm a commercial art major and I've had my work critiqued so many times I started drawing against it and created this style which I'm comfortable with and enjoy drawing. I could draw in different styles but preffer this one. As for comments on the characters' features, you're allowed to think anything looks stupid, that's your perogative. I happen to like the way they look.

knowing that it has pop-ups makes me really really not want to go and take a look >.<

it's worth waiting for keenspace. once you get used to the tags and stuff, it's really easy, cause almost everything is done for you. all you need to do is upload your strip. no constant coding. heaven. and no pop up ads. <is there a place that is better than heaven? if there is, insert it here.>

what's commericial arts?
cause being an arts student means shit in terms of your ability to draw

and if you like your handwriting enough, and don't like any computer fonts you've found, make your own font! i did! that way, you can make it like your handwriting, but neat and readable for your readers (not that my handwriting is messy and unreadable, it's just that i'd rather NOT have to put text straight onto the comic.. it's a lot easier on the computer. and you get nice speach bubbles)

you can download shareware font creator programs, and if you really like whatever it is that you downloaded, find a crack for it.
use a spoon! it hurts more!

I'm not one of those art majors that uses that as a sign that I can draw well. I only even mentioned it because people make comments and give critiques like I've never heard any before. Trust me, in studio classes, my work gets verbally ripped apart every day, so I know what's to be expected out of critiquing. I know how to take criticism and I'm also not a neanderthal. I can draw in much more elaborate ways than I do in the strip, especially in pencil, but that's not the point. I'd just like to hear people's comments on what they think of the strip, what they like and don't like, and why.
I like my handwriting, it fits the drawing style better than other comic fonts I've tried. As for making a font, I'm not big on that. Right now I like to think of the words as part of the art. All I'm really using programs for right now is resizing and fixing scanning errors. And I'd preffer if I could wait for keenspace, but I'm sick of waiting. It's not worth waiting a month to get a backload of material up. Once keenspace gets my site fixed I'll put it back on (Or register a domain) but for now I want my work out there because I've been putting off distribution long enough. I'm sorry if people don't like pop ups, I hate them more than most who visit my site. Just do as I do and open all the pages you want, then exit the pop ups when you're done. It's a lot quicker than closing them each time one pops up.
