Need some website and comic feedback.

Post by Reubo »

EDIT: oops, sorry I think I put this in the wrong section. Could a mod move this to the right one?

http://ppr.comicgenesis.com

So I have a website set up right here, and I want to get the website done before continuing with the comic so that I don't have to do it later.

Problems I am aware of: (Don't complain about them because I'm already aware of them and I'll fix em on monday)
The font sucks
The navigation buttons are seperated oddly.
You can't click any of the top buttons while you are in the faq section
The font size is inconsistent.
I don't have a banner yet :P

So mainly I'd like some advice on the colours of the site. I personally think they're OK, but some of my friends think that the purple colour isn't very good and that having solid backgrounds isn't that good either. So I was thinking of giving the site a purple, blue and black colour scheme. The buttons would be purple, the content boxes blue, and the background black. But before continuing with this I'd like some input.

And I'd also appreciate opinions on the comic. I know the art hasn't been too great (Especially in comics 1 and 4) but I'd like any suggestions you can think of. (I bet it turns out all the jokes have been used before without me knowing. -_- That thing always happens to me)
Where is the bottom and where is the top??? You will never know!!!

For your URL to work, I think you have to post the entire URL.

The shade of purple you have is too strong for me. I'd go with something more in the range of pastel/grey. I wouldn't put anything too fancy back there--you don't want your background distracting from the actual comic.

The art really could use some work, mostly of the drawing lots and lots until you learn to draw better variety. I don't think there's very much we can tell you that's superior to just drawing.

You don't want the site to overshadow the comic. Right now, it is. You have a very bright, pure background colour with a black and white comic. Muting your colours a little would work wonders. I'd also put a border all the way around your comic rather than just between the panels to separate it from the webpage a bit more.

It's also worth bouncing things like colour schemes off friends before you make a final decision. People have blind spots for their own work.

Thanks everyone. Right now I'm thinking of using a muted blue (Joel's and Nakedelf's suggestions except it's blue instead of purple) and I'll keep the buttons. I'll make a background pattern except I'll keep it VERY dark. I'm still taking suggestions though.

And is it possible to make a border around a comic to fit any image of any size? I'd like to know how to do that so I don't have to make a border for each comic.

Yeah, I'll also spend more time on drawing my comics... I'm pretty sure none of my comics so far used any of my better drawing programs like Opencanvas, so I can use that to make my lines and colours and shading better.

<img src="filename.gif" style="border: 5px solid black;">

The "5px" is the width in pixels, "solid" indicates a solid line (and not, say, dashed) and "black"... Well, I reckong you can get that one. Image

That's stylesheets, by the way. A lot of the stylesheet stuff is very straightforward and easy like that. I mean, replace the colon with "is" and it turns into a perfectly understandable English sentence. Very simple to understand.

Oh, sorry. No, that won't work. Sorry. I misunderstood.

Ack. I'd have to play with it to find out how to make it work and I really can't just now. Maybe someone else knows.

Maybe think about broadening your site design a little. As it is, the whole site is set up in one long line, you could put your cbox next to your blogger, or something. Stuff at the very bottom of the page tends to get lost.

The background is kind of distracting, even though it's just black and grey, the amount of contrast is enough that it's the first place the eye goes, rather than the title or the comment. You might want to see about widening the title, and making the name of the comic larger and more legible.

As for the art, I think your style works fine for you, it's legible, and everything, which is good. Uh- I'm sleepy, so that's all I got for now.

It's about fluff, angst, drama, comedy, gaming. Come play in our world.
