E-mail Strip Function.

Post by Shishio »

Does anyone know how to create an e-mail strip function like the one on Dueling Analogs?

Have you asked Dueling Analogs how they did it?

That would require a server-side script to actually do the emailing. Such things can be designed, but because it lacks a way of pushing an advertisement to the reader, and requires html email to actually see it (if it's not an attachment) it's probably not a feature I'd readily implement.

Such email forms are easily turned into spam launchers.

Hrm. What about a function which emailed a link to the strip? That way the person receiving it would have to go to the comic (and thus would still see the ad).

That is what the DA function does, actually.

Ah. My impression based on Kisai's response was different.

I can see why Kisai would assume it sends an actual image, but the image is just there so you know which strip you're sending the link to. Here's what an e-mail sent through that form looks like:
A comic strip from Dueling Analogs has been sent to you from
itto_ryu_[at]hotmail[dot]com.df also said:Testing. To see your comic, visit
http://www.DuelingAnalogs.com here:http://www.duelinganalogs.com/?date=2007-08-02If you
cannot access the page by clicking on the URL above, just copy and paste it into
your browser's address window. Be sure to copy the entire URL, as it may be broken
up into two lines.
I changed the @ symbol and period in my e-mail address, but otherwise, this is what it looks like.

Well, if you just want it to email the link, you can use RSSPect.com - it's what i do. Just put your email address in the little "mailing list" box, and it sends you an email every time the strip updates.

The way they do it, you'll need some kind of server side script - it shouldn't be to hard to find one. Then you just make a couple of forms on your page and you're ready to go.
