Well, if we're doing spelling corrections, Hammett's first name should not have an "e" at the end (at least not according to the references and few copies of his works I have.) <P>Of course, in the original novel, Sam Spade gets shot by Archer's wife, and if memory serves me, there was more emphasis on Wilmer's status as a "gunsel," plus I think there may have been a couple slight name alterations, though I can't think of any at the moment. Still, a fairly fine film. However, I personally prefer the Thin Man films, though admittedly they were rather more loosely based on the original novel.)
