I'd forgotten where it was!! that was it, honest!! ~-^ weee... so this is ... random chatter eh? *eg*
I like the Japanese version of the 7-11 and the Circle K's ...bought a Pinky, the fresh monkey!
It's a teeny stuffed monkey that comes with its own pinky mints. He rocks. My better half is deathly afraid of it... hehehe.. beware Pinky!!!!

When I went to Japan Last summer (During the *ugh* peak of summer)
I was disapointed with the Japanese 7-11's.
There are no Slurpee Machines. I felt so betrayed.

But the Japanese 7-11 jingle was stuck in my head for weeks. That and the pocky commericial (which is not really a bad thing).

Hey! I was in Japan from June to August last year! Where were you?

Actually, I wasn't disappointed about the Slurpees because Japanese convenience store food rocks. Noodle sandwiches with mayo, prepackaged everything, and let's not forget the summer hot food special -- karaage (fried chicken), in regular or whatever other flavors they have (I've seen "cheese" and "red pepper," to name a few).

Winter is better for convenience stores because they have steamed buns then. The "pizza" ones, which are about as related to pizza as okonomiyaki is, are incredible.

It's a GIANT pet peeve of mine that people call okonomiyaki "Japanese pizza." It's egg, bacon, cabbage, and whatever else fried on a grill for goodness' sakes.

Man, that brings me back...glad I'm not still there; I'd be making myself poor buying comic books.

Well I thought overall the convience stores were cool for getting munchies.

But, when you go into a 7-11 you expect to see a slurpee machine. It took me a while to get over the shock (considering slurpees are a daily staple of my life).... but food eased the pain.

FYI: Do not buy Pocari Sweat, It tastes EXACTLY as it sounds (Hey, I Didn't know. I thought it was just water)

It's too late for that; I've tasted of what the ads call "Human Water."

Actually, I wrote about a bunch of Japanese drinks on my woefully non-updated page:
http://benjaminjcooper.tripod.com/trav/drinks.html
which still works; I checked. I still think it's funny, too, but I would.

But you're missing the king of them all... a Jamaican peanut beverage called "Agony"...

(They also sell Cock Flavoured Soup...)

I missed out on the Mango Pocky, mostly because I had a whole trip around Tohoku planned, rail pass and everything, and they're kind of Pocky-deprived on the Shirakami. Beautiful coast, though.

I was in Tokyo for a while, but I'm always more attracted to things that look like maybe you shouldn't eat them -- the funny colored foods that aren't candy.

I was very disappointed in the Evangelion potato chips.

Yes i did try the mango pocky, I liked it, I liked it a lot.

I think there are too many varieties of pocky out there. For example "Giant Pocky" and "Men's Pocky"

Awww crap! the pocky song is now stuck in my head.....pushing out...exam information..... day of studying....gone...
