Well, they're not very secret if you go and tell people that you're working on them...

Sure it is... as long as I don't tell anyone what I'm working on. :)

Phah. I've been on this forum, since it started... and on the forum before it... Then on the forum before that one early on.

I've been the epitome of decency, albiet definitely on the silly side.

I'll be finishing the project in a little bit here, then tomorrow I will mail it off to its recipients. (it's a gift)

Once they receive it, You all will find out about it here. :) (It's a gift, and should arrive to them in time for Epiphany. :) )

:o Zodo, you ROK! This is some of the coolest fan art Joey and I have ever seen!

Image

If anyone has trouble making them out from my photo, they're Shrinky Dinks of (from left to right) Mindy, Tonja, Clown Girl, Catball, Melissa, Gin, the WetBag, the Pig, the Fridge, Jackie, Ada, JoBeth (Bippy style) and JoBeth (grown-up style).

Folks, this guy went through the archives of all four comix to find full figure drawings of these characters, then he retraced 'em and shrink'd 'em! Dude, that's a LOT of WORK!! These are SO COOL!

And thanx for the mints as well--roto-rooter for the sinuses will come in handy, since our nasty weather will probably hit in March. You're gonna have to get more than the books you ordered....

See? I said you all would find out what the project was once it arrived. :)

I think the hardest one to do was Ada, because in the comic I got it from, she was only sketched. I basically had to edit out all the sketch lines, and bold up the lines... Coloring was fun, though. I didn't really get the right color on the fridge, though, and it ended up getting bent kinda funny in the shrinking. Gin's hair came out, though. :)

I think that Wetbag and the Pig are the ones that came out best, for some reason. :) Stoopid Pig.

And BJ is right, I went through the archives of all four strips. :)

Glad you like 'em BJ. Now you can have the figs on top of your computer watching you while you type. :)

If we put them on the computer, certain cats will probably use them as toys and we'll start finding them all over the house. Unless we use superglue or something. I mean, if the cat's stuck to the wall, she can't reach the Shrinky Dinks, right?

Thanks, Zodo! Your books'll be in the mail tomorrow! And hey! I'm posting again! :D

You could always glue magnets on the back, and put them on the Fridge. :) Even get some of those Fridge Poem magnets to make dialog...

heh, that'd be an amusing way to make a comic strip, using shrinky dinks, magnetic poem words, and a Fridge, using a digital Camera. :)

Hey look! the comic strip underneath the shrinky dinks is the current strip over at Tonja Steele! We got a sneak peek!

Yay! Sneak Peek! :)

(By the way, Joey and BJ, I've discovered that shrinky dinks scan very well once you take the bases off. I've done it with some of the other 'Dinks i've done, to show them off. You could do this to let Frempath see them in more detail.)

So I arrive home from work last night, and find I've got a big envelope from Stevens Point, WI on top of my mailbox. I open it up to find the three Tonja Steele books I ordered (including the one that provides the answer to question #11 :)), Some original artwork of the Pig and JoBeth on the back of some instructions to set up a store display, and this:

Image

The Jackie's Fridge Soundtrack (V 1.0)!

This rocks! I've only had a chance to listen to the first two songs so far (on the minidisc player in my car. It's my best set of speakers. :)), but I could just imagine Jackie, Ada, Melissa, and Caryn singing the background vocals for the first song.

That got me thinking of the girls in a band, Jackie on Drums, Ada on Bass, Melissa on Keyboard, and Caryn rippin out some mad riffs on a guitar. :)

In any case, this is way cool! Thanks BJ and Joey!

Wow, Zodo. Those are awesome. What a great gift.
I don't even want to know how long it took you to research and make those! Great job.

Took three days to go through the archives, find the images I wanted, and edit them with photo shop to remove the color (and sketch lines in the case of Ada) and assemble them onto three printable sheets. Then I photocopied the sheets onto the Shrinky Dink Plastic. Then it took me two more days to cut and color then shrink them.

There were several more images I had considered, like Darron and Damien, and the Nicest Harpy from the Zema storyline, and Victor and Jackie/Caryn on the motorcycle from Jackie's Fridge, but I didn't want to go overboard. :)

Haven't had anything to warrant a two-page thread. This will change pretty soon, though.

I kinda' figured you put some serious work into those--I'm only sorry I don't have an official JF book I could've sent. I dunno if all the music on that disc is quite your speed, but it's stuff that puts me in the JF mood or has been referenced in the strip (the song Jackie was singing in the shower, for example). Brian May's "On My Way Up" is so far my fave choice for a JF theme song, which is why it's first.

If anybody's interested, here's an incomplete track list off the JF soundtrack I sent Zodo:

On My Way Up, by Brian May
Feeling Better, by Sugar
May, by Vacuum Scam
Criminal Mind, by Fingerprintz
Louie's Return, by Brother
Love & Death, by the Darling Buds
Elvis Sunday, by Splashdown
Hang to Dry, by Julie Plug
Echohead, by Fingerprintz (they are Jackie's official favourite band)
Ordinary Day, by Great Big Sea
Dancing in the Storm, by Boom Crash Opera
Elevator Man, by Oingo Boingo
Then, by Vacuum Scam
Finetime, by Cast
Radio Religion, by Grace Pool
Rock & Roll Girl, by Katrina and the Waves
I Understand, by Splashdown
Take You Back, by Brother
The End of the Beginning, by the Darling Buds

There are a couple more that I didn't write down. And one glaring omission that I remembered once I sent it out was Toy Matinee's "Remember My Name". You can likely find the Toy Matinee disc in a blowout bin for about three bucks, and I'd recommend buying it. Phenomenal songwriting. It's the one with a large, black and white, smiling woman's face on it with a small, pencilled-in Snively Whiplash moustache under her nose.

I'll see if I can't come up with a version 2 some day. Glad you liked the package, Zodo!
