BJ, that was very sweet. I think I got a cavity reading it.

Hm, I may be having a stupiphany here, but is Jared deaf? When Ada says "yeah" she appeares to be gesturing "yes" and Jared's hands keep moving away from the comtroller. If so, then that "Do you need an interprater?" thing makes sense.
-Octapus "Space for rent" E
-and in a blinding flash of light- I realized the totally obvios.

All togeather now: "::sniff:: Awwww."
Now that was just cute. I wonder if Ada's boy had her coloring? Dark skin is a dominant gene, but blonde hair is a recessive. I hope we get to see him in color soon.
-Octapus "Punk Geneticist" E
-I wonder if he got her caffine tolerance?

Hmmm... maybe some guilt on Ada's part, here? Maybe she feels her son's deaf because of her drug abuse? From what little we've seen, he doesn't seem to have any other disabilities... from what I've heard of MGS2, he's probably advanced if he can play it at his age. n.n;
(Speaking of which, despite the fact that it has an option to turn on subtitles, at least the original does, there's still a certain amount that's purely a sound thing with these games. I wonder if gaming companies ever produce special versions of videogames for deaf people? Or even blind ones?)
------------------

I have a friend who's an aid at a center for troubled deaf children. I showed her this comic and asked her opinion. She said that the deaf can feel music, that if the game had enough base sounds the child would feel them. Depending on where you setup the speakers, the child would be able to sense in which direction the sound came from. If the sounds were different enough, that he could probably tell them apart.
But it's not hearing them as much as feeling them. Like putting your hand next to a set of speakers while wearing earplugs I guess.
-Veryinky

I ran a search on American Sign, and Jared sure looks like he's doing it. Thumb of the right hand to the chin means "mother" and that's what Jared is going when he asks if Ada is his mom. It would be very strange if that's coincidence.
-Octapus "Home on a Saturday Night" E

Havent posted in a while....
This is a great strip. Best art and layout I've seen yet. Cant wait to see the colored one.
The long, non-sensical delay it took to get to this one was quite worth it (not to say the comics leading up to this one were bad, it just wanted to make me throw rotten fruit at BJ)

Today's strip pretty much confirms that they're signing... The Gestures, Ada's lack of accent, the different type, and the direct reference to sign.
It's neat that she and Jared are getting along so well. He apparently hasn't been told horrible things about her, and is at least accepting her as a friend.
It'll be interesting to see what he chooses to call her, Ada, or Mom.
-Zodo, CI

It seemed perfectly natural that Gunner can read lips. What I don't understand is how he can sign with a cheeseburger in his hands!
I also find his remark in the last panel kind of callous, but I can't expect him to have Gin's overstanding...
------------------

Hmmm, it seems he can lip read too. At least, it looks like it in Friday's strip.
