B.J. I am the little guy, especially when it comes to being a hopeless romantic. Therefore it pains me when other little guy's get screwed by misunderstandings, real life or otherwise.
DON'T PULL THIS CRAP WITH VICTOR.
Victor trying to have courage to ask Jackie out but not being able to is fine.
Jackie thinking Victor is cool and would never ask her out is fine.
BUT VICTOR THINKING JACKIE THINKS HE'S A JOKE IS DOWNRIGHT MEAN.
Yes, I know it's just a comic.
Yes, I know you pulled this stunt to get a response from the readers, WELL JACK IT WORKED. HAPPY?
(the previous message was posted somewhat in jest. BUT NOT THAT MUCH.)
------------------

Gah!
BJ! Please, please, please, don't make me yell at you to tell you to GET ON WITH IT!
I, and many others, I'm sure, who are actually shy in RL, have been rooting for Victor all along, so we can date Jackie vicariously through him...
Gah!
(Of course, he's in New York, and can't read this, but I just had to vent)
-Zodo

That was a heartbreaker...
things like that always frusturate me...when a character only hears part of a conversation, gets the wrong impression and leaves feeling dejected.
i wanna jump in there and be like 'nooooo! come back!'
------------------

>>>If everything went right for them, you wouldn't sympathize. You'd all be jealous and hate him.<<<
I'm fine with things not working out perfectly - I do, in fact, hate that more than anything, since it reminds me far too much of what I don't have at all. However, I just detest the old "Me and him? Never! (he leaves dejectedly) He'd never go for me!" thing. It's old, and it's not enjoyable, and it hits close to home in all the bad ways and none of the good.
------------------

BJ - I have to agree. This is an old trick, and one that *really* aggravates me, especially since I can sympathize with Victor a good bit. It's one thing for him to have trouble working up the gumption to ask her out, another thing for her to think he never would want to, but for him to think that she'd never want to - that's just cruel.
------------------

Sorry guys, I liked it. Then again, I'm a fan of Maison Ikkoku.
I've learned from my meager attempts to write my own stuff, and digging into why I like certain stories. Most of the time, the more a character is hurt, the more you feel for them and care about them. With certain authors, you can tell which characters they like the most or identify most closely with because those are the characters who are hurt the worst / most often. (Er, maybe that's just my characters...)
--Imp
------------------

It is an old trick. And it is a mean trick.
But I needed a quick way to "get on with it"--the "it" in this case being Jackie's Fridge itself. It's been Jackie Jackie Jackie for the longest time, and I wanna do some Shannon & Melissa stuff.
Is Victor shocked and depressed? Sure. Is he discouraged or embarassed? No. If he actually had asked Jackie and she said no, then he would be. Leave him alone to mull this over for a while.
Besides, you haven't heard what Ada has to say to him.
From a creative standpoint, how much fun would it be to read a strip where everything happens quickly and easily? How can you start really rooting for Victor until he's backed into a corner and ready to fight for what he wants?
And how do you know he knows what he wants?
------------------
