Folks,<P>Yep, I'm still alive, even thought I haven't posted in forever. While I'm generally apolitical, our recent "incident" with China has had me thinking a little about international relations. A friend of mine sent me the following (which I've edited a bit for grammar and impact), and it made me laugh so much I just had to share:<P>"Dear government of the People's Republic of China:<P>"We're sorry that you don't train your fighter pilots better. As a token of our apology, here's a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000.<P>"We're sorry that your front-line fighter planes can't outmaneuver a 35-year-old prop-driven airliner. Perhaps you'd like to consider purchasing some surplus 1950's-era Lockheed Starfighters from the Republic of China (Taiwain), who just replaced all theirs with shiny new F-16s.<P>"We're sorry that you believe your territorial waters extend all the way to Australia. For future reference, here's an American 6th-grade geography textbook (please take note of the copyright information printed inside the cover).<P>"We're sorry that you can't seem to see your part in this incident. We know that it may seem easier to blame others, rather than take responsibility. Consider this while we build several new Aegis destroyers for our friends in the Republic of China.<P>"We're especially sorry for treating you with such respect for the last 20 years. We'll definately rethink this policy, and will probably go back to treating you like a common untrustworthy street gang very soon.<P>"We're very sorry for ever granting you Most-Favored Nation trading status. Two kinda serious and Kinda boring replies to this topic.<P>1) Hey, be serious (on a discussion board about a funny comic, sure) A US *Spy* plane just outside the border of China was doing what? Why Spying on China of course! So expect them to take a keen interest in the plane, regardless of who's fault it was that it was forced to make that emergency landing.<P>2) Uhh, Bjork is not chinese.<P>

We're not at war with China, we KNOW they have the plane, and we KNOW the reason their keeping it is to strip it dry of useful electronics that they can incorporate into their own systems. Yeah, the dress was kinda hideous.<P>Regarding Terretorial boundaries, You are absoultely correct Shannon. Regarding the Convention on the Law of the Sea (http://www.un.org/Depts/los/UNCLOS-provisions.htm) the boundary in this case is up to 12 miles from China's shore. (It has control over natural resources by this same convention to a 200 mile limit). <P>China does however have an arguement with Vietnam regarding the ownership of some Islands in the area, and if China's side of the disagreement is observed, their teretorial boundarie's would be extended by about 100 miles.<P>All this is totally besides the point however, I'm not saying that China has any right delay the proper return of that *SPY* plane and its crew to the US. But merely suggesting that anyone who expects them to act otherwise is silly, and that 2) the USA would act in the same way <P>Speaking of International Law and teretorial boundaries, think you could do something about the American Fishermen that are well within Canada's legal 200 mile teretorial boundaries (re: natural resources extend to 200 miles, not 12)?<P>Hehe

True, Anime News is a good thing.
