Okay, since this seems the right forum to post to on this:<P>Why "sightless"? I can understand disabled vs crippled; the word "cripple" implies a total inability to do anything, which usually isn't the case. Do Blind/sightless people really object to the word "Blind"?<P>------------------

No, but it depends on the person. Most of my blind friends use both words, but more often "blind"--I'm assuming because it has fewer syllables.<P>There may be subsections of the words I don't know about (maybe "blind" is total inability to see, and "sightless" is the ability to see, say, very bright light; or maybe "blind" has too much stigma attached to it, and "sightless" is just more polite). Alas, all my blind/sightless friends have moved away, so I can't ask them for clarification.<P>Anybody willing to share some enlightenment?<P>------------------
