All right. This post has nothing to do with Jackie's Fridge, but it's been running through my brain. I have a strange analysis about a certain plot point. If any of you have seen it, please let me know.
I'm afraid to post it here, because I know some people (*ahem*, SHANNON) haven't seen it, and my analysis involves one of the major plot points, and I don't wanna ruin it for anyone.
I just want to know if anybody's thinking the same thing. About Cale & Korso and the setpiece involving the wake angels.
------------------

I saw it in the theater twice.
I really don't have any idea what you're talking about BJ. Perhaps you should email me to explain it better.
-Zodo

It's like a rule or something!"
People who learned their astrophysics from GI Joe tended to blast one specific sequence in Titan above all others -- one that turned out to be *right*. When I watch a film, I've got a certain amount of concessions I'm willing to give, kinda' like hits you can take in Lazer Tag.
Once the film hits me with too many "Oh, for crying out loud!" segments or lines of dialogue, I start lowering it on my list of cool things.
Titan had a few (I'll agree on the plot points) but given the target audience (teenaged boys) the amount of time they had to develop and produce it (19 months, start to finish) and all the rest of the crap that's out there for our viewing displeasure, it was a really good film.
In order to streamline the film so it fits into 90 minutes, you've gotta cut corners. I believe Bluth and company cut the right ones. And many of the setpieces (the wake angels segment, the Drej ship rising out of the nebula) are positively breathtaking.

Woah! John! Pooga! It's fantastic! I don't know if you guys remember Rock & Rule (1983, Nelvana Studios), but it's similar to that. It has your basic plot & characters, but it's got enough attitude and eye candy (and some killer dialogue) to carry it with style.
Joey HATES science fiction, and she loved Titan.
Go see it. One of the script writers was Ben "the Tick" Endlund. If nothing else, give the man some royalties.

That part seemed kinda choppy and rushed.
Did they make any mention of that in the DVD special edition?
-Zodo

BJ - Edlund's got that TV series comin' up, he doesn't need my money.
And Pooga - I turned down seeing Little Nicky today for the very same reason. It's all in the crappitude, man.
------------------

Actually, yeah. They include the unfinished footage. Korso & company break out Akima by short-circuiting the door to her cell, then Akima comes out and starts blasting the other cell doors, thus freeing the other slaves. Finally, she blasts the big tower in the centre that powers all the doors.
The slaves, of course, thunder for the exit, trampling the intelligent guard just as he comes to.
That's the only extra stuff they included from the middle of the film, though they mention there were a couple more scenes from that area that were never fully realised. The middle of the film is a notorious dead spot, so they decided to just cut to the meaty stuff.
According to Bluth and Goldman, they actually animated about 110 minutes of footage for the 85-minute film, which ended up clocking in at about 93 minutes anyway--long for an animated feature.
Also included on the DVD are a scene on Korso's ship where Cale repairs a drinks machine (much of which was shortened and re-edited for the final film, to Goldman's dismay), and the original cuts of the ice crystals segment (those vacuum drives that "never die" according to Cale....die, which explains all the manoeuvring via thrusters instead of main engines) and the final battle on the surface of the Titan (which is really scrambled up; I like the final version better).
I love watching the unfinished animation. It's really beautiful.
BTW, if you're interested in plugging a few plotholes, read the book. My ex-girlfriend devoured it, and she said it explained quite a few things, such as how Cale was able to read the Drej Queen's subtitles.

Titan AE? It looks good, I'll probably see it eventually. I was referring to the latest Adam Sandler vehicle. Granted I was never a big Adam Sandler fan to begin with, but I think wore out the village idiot role at least two movie ago.

Oh, yes. Usually I'll let a lot slide, as long as it is neither critical to the plot or overly blatant. It's amazing how many movies can't stay within these simple guidelines.
The worst offender in recent memory is Mission to Mars. I think I could have swallowed a lot more about that film if a) it hadn't been trying to portray itself as realistic and b) it hadn't tried to play up that stupid "face on Mars" angle well over a year after it was established that there is no face monument on Mars! As it was, I noticed so many little procedural errors and physics anomalies that I had a hard time paying attention to the plot. Not that what I remember of the plot was anywhere near engaging. To think I almost went to the theater and paid money to watch it... *shudder*
Pooga
------------------
