"Lemme show you something."

Post by Kiwegapa »

Oooh..This is gonna be goood. These past few strips have been like a rumbling storm, and now it's going to break. Even if I wasn't a fan of the strip already, I'd be intrigued.

As both the owner of a business and as a low-end-of-the-totem-pole customer service person, I've had to deal with my share of rude customers. Some are just cranky, some are well within their rights, and some are just flat out in need of a wake-up call. I had the cause to refuse service to two customers in seven years as a business owner, and there was a certain amount of satisfaction in seeing the surprise on their face when their temper tantrum backfired.

And just in case no one's said it yet , hurrah for new strips!

Having worked in a couple restaurants in this town, which happens to have the highest density of Restaurants per capita in the US, I have personally seen several occasions where people have intentionally looked for something wrong with their meal, demanded to see a manager, and demanded that their meal be free, and get a coupon or certificate for a free meal on their next visit.

Guess what they do on their next visit?

I had one manager, who did actually have the spine to refuse to give out the next meal for free (he let them have the current meal for free). The customer threatened to take her business elsewhere. My manager's response: "What business? You never pay for your meals. You can take that anywhere you want. Have a nice day." :D

I really liked working for that guy.

I had to give up on customer service. It almost ruined my life and if I carried on much longer someone was gonna die. :o

Either I would keel over from a heart-attack or I'd end up choking a shoplifter just to watch them die. There was actually a pool amongst staff and regular customers betting on when I would snap.

I'm happy to say that I quit and I feel much better now. :D

Maybe now we will find out where the owner has been all this time, and how she didn't notice that payroll was vanishingly small for a restaurant. Or how this situation sprung up in the first place. Not to mention why Lou and Bippy haven't gotten better jobs if they are that competent.

Hah! But then Lou wouldn't be bitter about being stuck in a deadend job. :P She'd be bitter about being stuck as a franchisee. :)

Special skills indeed

I suspect Lou knows FAR more about managing and running the restaurant than most in the industry.

There IS an efficiency to simplicity, because with unskilled/trainee workers there is often greater opportunity for confusion of methods and corresponding conflicts.

I suspect that the two have been working together for so long they know each others habits and skills for the greatest synergy.

I see that Gin's picture is still up on the wall, cool.

(from here)

I wonder if that super-cutesy kangaroo strip is still rumbling around in BJ's portfolio somewhere, and that maybe we could see it if we asked really nice...

Ah..we've seen the first shoe drop. I'm waiting for the other now. *grins widely*

I think what I like best about this little series is that it perfectly captures how when you're forced to work your tail off, putting all you can into something, whether or not you dislike the situation itself, you are proud of that work. There's a dignity in working hard and doing a good job. And you get that without anyone having to spell it out in these strips.

Sorry Zodo--the super-cutesy strip was never illustrated. I just had it written. It would be interesting to do a sickly sweet superdeformed version of it now, though. :o
