::twitch:: Musical idiots....
I can identify with Jackie's feelings.....The girl in World History who couldn't understand why I would want to listen to some dead guy (John Lennon), the moron in Chemistry who thought someone had ripped off Vanilla Ice's "music" the first time he heard Queen's "Under Pressure", the girl in Band who thought I was a freak for listening to anything not in english (Mylene, anything Jrock or Jpop), the kid in Chemistry who didn't get Mr. Uselton's joke about "Purple Haze" coming out of our "Jimi Hendrix Experiment", the guy in Wellness who I almost got into a fistfight with because he just KNEW the Stone Temple Pilots were the first to record "Revolution".........And the list goes on.
"Weird. Even with the Bat missing or dead, I wouldn't think anyone but an Arkham Alumnus would try a kidnapping in Gotham."
"It is disrespectful. He deserves better."

I get depressed sometimes. I used to be an REM fan, so when a girl came into the music store looking for "older REM", I was delighted. I handed her "Murmer", "Life's Rich Pageant" (my all time favouriete) and "Document". She listened to them and said she couldn't find the song she was looking for and asked if there was anything older (like what, "Chronic Town"?). In a burst of unenthusiastic inspiration, I put on "Automatic for the People", which I still consider "new" REM, and sure enough, she wanted "Man on the Moon".
I sighed and sold it to her, neglecting to tell her I think they peaked with "Green".
We all have different backgrounds and opinions, and sometimes they just make us feel old and out of the loop.

I don't generally feel old or that I'm listening to 'forgotten' music until one of my favorite bands from my teen years comes out with a "Greatest Hits" CD.
It's even worse when I find out the band I thought was God's Gift (A-ha) was considered a one-time pop sensation in the States but yet to this day are popular (and have a couple spin off groups) in Europe.
*SIGH*
We are a fickle, fickle people.
VIVA LA PIG ! ! (Who is not evil, he's just misguided)

"Losing My Religion" was released as a single back in what- 1989? I can't remember the album it was on, but I remember that all the guys with me in AIT in 1992 had copies they'd bought in high-school (or, out of the bargain bins in the PX on post...) Remember when the Music journalists were comparing R.E.M. to Big Star? (nobody remembers Big Star either). Heh, now I listen to Warren Zevon (someone else who's never going to make it on commercial radio), because it makes me laugh. ("Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", "Hit Somebody (the Hockey song)"...heheheheheh...)
