Well, yeah, I play RPGs and compooter games. Probably far too much of them, really. =)

I spend more money on RPGs and computer games (and hardware) than I do on food.
But nobody's ever created the RPG that realy fit me, so been writeing my own. Familiar with the "Car Wars" universe or the GURPS system? Writeing a game set in that universe using the GURPS ruleset for the rpg part, using the "Crystal Space" 3d engine for the display. It kinda looks like Fallout (my favorite game)... Been slow going lately cause I've been realy depressed.

quote:

The 'neat' thing is all a matter of perspective, I'd guess. Depends on whether or not you mean neat in the 'she's kinna neato' manner, or 'she's into neatness'. The latter is, well, woefully wrong. =) My room is a mess! So's my house. Ugh.

Things I like, I refer to as "neat" or "nifty" or "keen", annoys the heck out of people I know tho, that or they giggle.

quote:

Yeah, I'm on the other side of the country from most folks, it seems.

That's too bad. I bought myself a car this summer to do a road trip in, '81 cherry red corvette with a t-top (my dream car back in school, yaaay). I was planning to drive through Canada then visit most of the major cities and sites in the US (and the florida keys, islands on a stick are neat). But I could only get 3 weeks vacation for this summer. So got pushed back to next year (but they promised me 6 weeks, yay!) If you did'nt mind, I'd drive by then to say "hi".

quote:

And besides, I'm pretty fictional even in real life... =) Course, that's more of science-fiction rather than fantasy-fiction. Though I DO own a few swords...

Nifty! I got a few myself, do you train? Fencing? Kendo?
The ones I have are a two handed sword which is almost as tall as me, a couple katanas, and wakizashi all undecorated and utilitarian.
Though I have been tempted to have a friend make me a FF7 style sword out of titanium (so it'd be light enough to use), but I have'nt been able to force myself to ask.
The road trip was'nt my first idea for this summer. I was all set to build myself a blimp this summer, with just enough carrying capacity for a small camper style gondola. Would of made a nifty RV. But custom blimp envelopes are realy expensive and American Blimp inc blew up my budget. Sigh.
-Veryinky

I'd ask JoBeth out, but she's purely fictional.
Plus I have nothing in common with her, so she'd be more friend material than date material. I like to talk about philosophy, economics, science, ethics, ... I'm not even sure if JoBeth is physicaly active. So even as a friend all we'd do are things like watch tv and play console videogames...
OTOH, psychoblonde said she plays rpgs and computer games, plus she's neat. But she lives on the otherside of the country and would probably say no anyways. Maybe that negates the fictional character thing?
I dono.
-Veryinky

It's true, I like her. She's prolly one of the few people who'd appreciate some of the odd things I do. Settleing arguments with supersoakers, collecting remotes cause they look like spaceships (they do!), a puppet theater rendition of "King Lear" using chocolate doughnuts...

quote:
Hey, I've done some kendo work! I used to have a lot of anger in me, from a very bad experience with school in general. Took martial arts courses to gain self confidence and self control.
Lesse, done 6 years of judo, usefull and fun but sweeps and throws are'nt realy my style. After that I've been doing karate for the past 7 years, I'm not that good at it because I have poor dexterity, but it got me into kendo around two years later.
It worked, partialy, thugs and bullies are no problem.
Girls who smile make me want to run away. Plus I'll agree to prety much anything as long as the person is nice and polite. I've had to have jahova's witnesses over every other week for several hours because I can't tell them I'm not interested.

quote:
Did you know you can use a wallet as a weapon? Nope. Did'nt know that, though I'd be very currious how.
Though, when I take long walks late at night I usualy wear my old motorcycle armor. A denim jacket which I had IIIa rated spectra shield lineing and plates put in, and kevlar lined jeans with internal knee pockets for armor plates. Looks like normal clothes but impervious to road rash, cuts and scrapes(the jacket could protect from a shotgun blast or most handguns...). Self-Defence techniques are one thing, full body armor is another.

What, does everybody around here own swords and practice martial arts?...
Kendo is fine and good, but too regimented for tournament. Kenjutsu is more a true fighting style, however. I've been training in that since I was about fourteen.
I wonder if any of the JF characters are into martial arts... <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/tongue. ...
Rhakir-

I used to practice a martial art, and would like to get back to doing it some day. The school closed, however.
Of course, there's a club at the University for that particular art (Aiki-jutsu), so it's really a matter of me making the time to attend.
And I don't own any swords. I'm into knives.
-Zodo

Well, I only used wooden kendos, and I do prefer collie sticks, they are more likely to be around when you need to protect yourself.
The official name of my martial arts technique is ryu kyu kempo (sp? pronounced roo-koo-kempoh) but we do a lot of different styles.
The wallet weapon thing is easier to see and learn than explain and learn. Basically, when someone asks for your wallet you can reach back to get it, then pitch it forward (underhand) as hard as you can. When you're throwing it put your free hand on your lower arm as the throwing arm comes up. This gives you the illusion of moving backwards and makes the throw harder. Hehe...be careful with it though, it hurts.
Veryinky, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings (if I did), remember, I'm still an immature teenager and you sound like some of my friends back here in the middle of nowhere...yeh.
Isn't it funny how we steer off the subject so drastically. Happens on nearly every board.
Man I love this place.
------------------

It's kinda weird to see Brandy actually playing with Gin. They're having a serious conversation, but that doesn't cover the fact that they're bordering on 'frolicing'. From afar, it would look like normal play.
I wonder if the whirly-bird routine was Gin's idea, and Brandy did it to get her to stop asking about it, of if it was Brandy's idea, to get Gin all dizzy, and sit still for a bit...
-Zodo

Cool, I had no idea so many JF fans were into martial arts and/or swords. I practice batto-jutsu myself, Ishi Yama Ryu. Still don't have my sharpened blade, but I do own 2 wooden swords (3 if you count the suburito nodachi), one plastic with a metal core (to practice sheathing without poking yourself or damaging the saya), and one zinc-aluminum allow iaito.
My sig is actually something I overheard someone say to their dogs as I was going to my car one day, bokken in one hand, iaito in the other.
--Chris
------------------

King Lear using chocolate donuts sounds like a good idea, though. Mmm...donuts.
As far as martial arts, I've taken like 1 year of karate, back when I was 16 or so, and that's about it.
I fence, though. Far less often than I used to, but back when I did, I was very good (in my own not-so-humble opinion -- I was the only one in the fencing group that our coach would actually seriously spar with, 'cause I could beat her about half the time). =)
-PsychoBlonde

Hey! Guess what? I got a kendo sword today! Eh...we don't do kendo, but a different type of sword fighting, can't remember what it's called, but we use training kendos for it.
I suck at it, but hey, I'll get better
------------------

Hm. Methinks the word "kendo" has been Americanised and converted to generic slang for use in describing the sword used in the art.
...ne?

No offence taken. I'm not totaly sure if being open about how I like Psychoblonde was a good idea anyways. But my friends tell me that I should talk to people more, and it's a message board, small steps and all that.

quote:
PsychoBlonde said...

I could show you how to build a universal remote using a linux compatible PDA and a infrared scanner/emmiter. I think remotes are neat, but they rarely live long due to my curriosity and handy screwdriver (and consequently become additions to my electronic spare parts collection).

quote:
PsychoBlonde said...

The story behind that was a friend came over because the guy she asked out to her grad dance stood her up. Okay, I've been training in Japanese sword for over a year, yet I have to ask, what in the world is a "training kendo"?
I know the sword of choice for the typical kendo-ka is the shinai, a sword made of split lengths of bamboo, and occasionally covered in a wrapping of leather. Upper levels may use bokken / bokuto, which are carved wood swords.
I've only heard the word kendo used to refer to the sword art which focuses on sparring, not to the sword itself. Kendo translates into English as "way of the sword" (ken = sword, do = way of).
In my batto-justsu style, we've gone modern and use foam swords during sparring practice. Saves a lot of money since we don't need to buy armor. But mostly we practice forms and target cutting.
--Chris
