Wierd.

On other news, I can now wear my suit of chainmail! The left side is completely finished, and the chest... the right side sleeve is just started, and the right side is just started. No back yet, but, I can wear it!

It feels, and looks, extremely cool.

It's a really crappy pic, and it only shows a bit of it. The person who took it only managed to actually take one pic, and managed to foul up the ones where I was wearing it. You're kinda looking at the left sleeve.

Don't worry, I'll have more pics later, specially now I have the shoulder pads attached (GODS They're big, and heavy, but they really make an affect)

This one is me just holding it up, upside down. It hasn't been finished quite yet, and the shoulder pads arn't currently attached, but yeah. You can see how it sorta looks now.

This pic is me wearing it; again, without the shoulder pads. For refence, the pads are a foot long and half a foot wide, with a bolt just over an inch on the back and front bottom corners (left on right pad, right on left pad).

And, this is me wearing it again, but from the back. It's not quite finished yet; the armpits both need work, it's too tight, and I have to make it stronger on the joins so that it can actually support a bit of strain on the shoulderpads (they're a little delicate now, and if one pulls hard on the pads they will actually come off and bend/break some of the rings).

But, yeah, very nearly finished.

Well, there are some really cool resources at

including information about wire, techniques, patterns and all sorts of stuff. I suggset you start with European four-in-one, and for your first suit, use larger rings since it's easier. The rings I used on my suit are larger then would be found on real chainmail, but that kinda works for me, since it was just my first suit. They also cut down the weight of the suit, but of course, the smaller rings you use the better the 'look'. I'd also recommend:

for some neat ways to do it, such as suspending it on a coathanger. I personally found that a bit cumbersome, but a few guys I talked to swore by it so yeah.. It's up to you I guess.

I'd recommend using the '45 degree sleeve pattern' to start with, as it's ment to be easier and provides a good look for a sleeved tunic. I didn't use it for my piece, rather, the whole thing was made as one piece; that got terribly complicated around the armpits and stuff, so... a uniform pattern would be best IMHO.
