Specialty?
I'm just wondering if you guys have a specific specialty (or just something you like doing) in any area of webcomic-ing. Like... story (what kinda story?) humor (dirty? silly?) web design (seriously, I don't even know enough about it to categorize it) or drawing? (landscapes, cutesy critters) And such.
I'm not a specialist at all, though. (Lookit my goddang avatar, for cripe's sake, I'm terrible) But I do like doing fight sequences. ^_^

No move camera
I guess the closest thing I have is i like writing jokes that involve no change in camera angles. I probly got this from reading too many Garfield comics. I Have been trying my hardest to break myself of this habet, but I think my best (or at least favorite) jokes are ones were its just two characters talking. No changing angles, locations, or backgrounds. Most of the time the characters bearly even move. Which is ironic 'cause they are my least favorite kind to draw. I just get bored redrawing the same scene over and over, and I'm too millitant to just reuse the same art twice for two different pannels.
I prefer fantasy and sci-fi stories full of angst and death and crises of faith. I only have one humorous story/fantasy spoof in my head right now. The rest are rather dark. Which is why I'm rather surprised at the way my comic is turning out. It's more slap-stick than serious so far, but it does get rather dreary and tearful at the end ... if only I could get to that point in the comic. It's much more exciting
I'm not terribly good at fight scenes, but my comic is forcing me to improve in that area quite a bit. I'm good at melodramatic poses. I still slaughter movement.

What is a speciality?
I have anti-specialities.
I have the worst concept of knowing where to put the 'camera' so any fight scene turns out awful.
I can write a beautiful story, but I have no concept of how to put it on paper.
I can mock up a page so it looks great, but I'm to lazy to draw it out that way, so it looks very slapshod.
Yup.
Now, specialities...?
Maybe I should just stick to drawing still shots.

Newbie here... ::watches the pointing and laughing::
My specialty...well...I haven't really thought about it too much but perhaps shading in Photoshop, and perhaps writing. I love writing, as long as it isn't for some stupid class. I've just seriously started working on my comic and likely won't have a whole lot for show until much later...at least most of the storyline is done!
My anti-specialty? That has to be backgrounds. I hate them with a passion and I can't draw them to save my life, but I'm going with the thought that they have to be there in order for readers to get an idea of the environment.

Ah, Bluebug you should read my comic, the first chapter's pretty depressing. (Please ignore the very bad artwork in the pages that are up, I'm working on improving my style).
Gotta agree, love the writing. Especially dialogue. I love making my characters talk as smart-assed as possible (because that's how I do self-insertion). Facial expressions are really fun, too.

Spiffy comic, Mercury_Hat. I like the relationship between the two main characters ... and the neko ears of course. So does does that mean the Beings are ... cats?? My artwork for my first three chapters really sucked, so I share your pain. Plus my first chapter is massive and meanders a lot ... so I'm grateful for all the readers who keep sticking with it.Mercury_Hat wrote:Ah, Bluebug you should read my comic, the first chapter's pretty depressing. Speaking of which ... I gotta to do some appreciation for them this month cuz it's Kurenai Mashin's Two Year Anniversary!
And on a random note ... does anyone know how to get signatures to work in the forum? My banner just refuses to pop up ...

I've gotten that comment from someone before and no, the Beings aren't cats, they're shape-shifters. It was in that big blurb in the first page so it's pretty easily lost, I stuck a thing about it in the FAQ (terms to know). It's my fault if no one understands that, I could've explained it better.
As for your signature, in the edit your profile page there's a button that says "Always attach my signature". Make sure the yes is clicked.

No, you did mention that they were shapeshifters. I thought perhaps they were shapeshifting cats .... I assumed that their original form involved some sort of cat ears ... which logically means to me that they had to be "cats". But I guess there's another explanation for why Greg has inherited cat ears. Hmm....
Love the newest update btw. Clever melding of comic and background. Green ... alien green ... ?
Oh yeah, and I do have my profile set to "always show sig" but for some reason it just never wants to show. I've tested it with just text and just images, but it never works.

Yeah, I did a site redesign the other day, changed the background from straight black to that green-ish color. I picked the color because I'm lazy; I only had to change the color of the font and the unvisited/visited links rather than changing all of it. As you can tell I'm in the middle of working on my style so I haven't been updating as often as I'd like to but after Tuesday there should be new stuff.
