The image quality depends on the compression rate of the JPEG. The quality tends not to get messed up too badly. Have you tried reducing the image dimensions? That generally works.

StarWarrior,

What size do you have your picture scanned in at? I usually scan a picture in at 300 pixels per inch and around 8.5X11.4 inches so it's easy for me to work with. Once I'm done coloring or toning it, I resize for the jpg version to 75 pixels per inch and around 8X11 inches. That way I don't have to compress it too much for a nice jpg. The ones I use on the site are usually around 145K so that the load time won't be murder for the main page. In case you want to use jpg format on your comic, just remember don't save it as a jpg until you are absolutely done working on the picture. If you try to change something in a jpg and then try to save it again as a jpg the quality will go downhill fast. Always make your changes in the original format.

ohh.... almost forgot... if you want me to see if I can get the image to a good size for you, just let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'm using photoshop anyhow for mine, and it wouldn't take me long to just size and compress something.

Um thanks electronblues. But if I can't send it to Bryan, how can I send it to you? There's the dilema. Plus, the file saves as .JPG not jpg. Any way,*taps microphone for attention* Yanagi-San, you told me to just send you the pictures for the banner right? And the stuff you want me to have on it right? Okay that's all I'll say now.

Okay, my submission is sent. Now I'm off to tone Tuesday's comic and sketch next week's. If I find time, I may try for another idea that I have for a pretty greyscale/limited color piece. The first one was really fun to do. ;)

Yea! I was accepted!

Postby Admiral Gilliad Cobalt on Sat Dec 07, 2002 10:16 pm

I spent some time on my pic, Bryan. I wanted to say thanks publicly for your kind words about the quality of my work. It is only the second piece of color work I have done related to The Adventures of Milea, OR Starship Moonhawk, so I am quite proud of it. I hope that in the future I can do more color work. (I'm thinking about a possible second pice for FCW2003... just a matter of time management.) I look forward to perusing the collection when it is posted!

Bryan,

Your spamcop doesn't like my IP. I wouldn't think there should be a big problem with Time Warner Roadrunner, but I guess spam can come from there as surely as it comes from hotmail. I tried again tonight, but I don't see any reason why it would go this time, if it didn't last night. If I can't send you my picture by email, how do you want me to do this? The picture is 300k, so I guess I could post it on a special page on my site with the info. Then I'd have to put a link to it in this post.....

hmmm..... if you have any other ideas, let me know.

I tried to send in a pic for FCW 2003, but it got bounced back.

Should I try to resend it?

-----EDIT---------------------------------------------------------------------
I got it in now. Thank you Bryan.

First off let me apologize to those who have been writing to the forum and haven't gotten my response. As you know, this thread for some reason was completely screwed up and I couldn't see any of the later posts, and furthermore I haven't been receiving any new post notifications like I usually do, so you wouldn't believe the surprise I had when I finally found your posts when I went to clean up the topic.

Clean up I mean by removing redundant posts. And that seems to have solved the problem.

I don't want to blame anyone for the weirdness that's been going on, but if the problem has indeed arisen from redundant posting, then we might as well just solve it here. Please folks, when you submit a post, press the submit button just once. It takes some time usually to get through. Usually it has even when the next page doesn't load, and you just don't know it. If you're not sure, copy paste your post into a safe place, and check the forum, refreshed, before you press the submit button again. Thanks

.JPG and .jpg are both considered jpeg files. Unless you are working in a case sensitive environment, you shouldn't really need to worry about this.

Also, I'm worried that you may have mistaken me when you got the notion that you can send it to me? Um, you can send me anything attached. If something intercepts your message and doesn't get to me ( as has been the case >-<) you can always send a link to me in the website, post it on the forum if possible, or get someone else's help....OR, if you are talking about the .ppd file , you can always send that attached to me, I'm just sure whether or not I can convert it. Come to think of it, maybe I can, if it is a photo "phinish" file, like I'm guessing.

Bryan
I've been trying to send the picture. But it always says that the file size of the mail is too big. I don't know why. I got the picture to supposedly 1k but then something says that it is about 5.69mb or something like that.

Oh, and just a note about sending your files to me. I have been getting most all of my submissions as attachments in the email; but as a few of you can attest to, for one reason or another, sometimes it just isn't able to go through. I usually respond to submissions on the same day or the next. If I don't, you may need to start worrying (although I will be out of town from the 18th-24th).

Sometimes the problem is with the file attachment. You can go Lycorne's way and upload your file to a URL and just send me the URL. No problem, that is just fine. If the problem is something else, you can post a reply here in the forum or send me a private message through the forum. I can get those from there.

Keep being persistent. Each person's entries count and I wouldn't want anyone to miss out just because they couldn't send it to me.

Thanks

Well, 5.69 is definitely way too big of an attachement to send through the mail. 1k is just fine, so make sure you are attaching the right file, and confirm that file is 1k by clicking on its properties or looking for it in a file manager.
