Hopefully the worst is over on the KS server, I've heard some horrific number (like 2000) of web comic home pages were lost w/o a local backup when the server disk went kabloowie :( Hopefully that info isn't entirely accurate, more will be revealed...

In any case, Scott has continued sending the HiRez versions for posting on the http://www.hirezfox.com . So even if the KS comic is not up to date, you can always get the biiig version of it at the HiRez site.

Now having said that:

The server I'm running HRF on is suffering from 3 years worth of kruft induced bit rot and really needs to be wiped clean and re-built. It's running NT 4.0 now and I'm thinking of moving it to NT 2K (I know IIS, I don't know apache).

I'll be doing that after the KS service has stabilized, but until then, HRF may be off line for a few minutes while I'm working on de-krufting the box somewhat.

I've been working on the box this PM, since the game is a blow out and I figured most people would be watching it instead of being a net g33k, so if you had some problems in the past hour or so getting to HRF, that's why.

The good news is I have all 5 or 6 of the web sites this box serves backed up to the teeth, so barring a metor strike on my bedroom there is 0 chance for data loss there, including Scott's work.

Thanks!
Mako

If you ever feel the urge to get that server off NT and on to a *nix, consider this a standing offer to help in any way I can. I'm no Apache guru, but I have some experience (the currently devoid-of-public-content runawaynet.com is actually on a P3 sitting in the next room) and plenty of general *nix experience (in fact, my systems are 100% MS-free since October). I've yet to do anything particularly advanced with Apache, but basic webserving (including virtual hosts) is pretty much 10 minutes w/docs to get it up and running.

Wow, that's an *exceptionally* generous offer of you! If your really up to wasting away several days of your life...

Can you drop me a line at: allenwoolleyATyahoodotcom please? I have a RH8 1Gig P3 box that I can spin up for conversion to an web server in a couple of hours. You can ssh into it and beat it into submission :)

Thanks!!!

WooHoo! Two linux gurus, life is GOOD :)

Tegeran finished the initial configuration of the server last night (Go Tegeran!) I have been fighting a really nasty bug in RH8's DHCP client (it doesn't work on my Cox cable line) and a dead CD-R which is making it a bear to get the files from the NT box to the linux box.

Despite that, Tegeran was able to over come those problems and get the HiRezFox site pulled together. The other 5 virtual directories haven't been created yet, but that'll happen soon enough.

We'll be testing it out tomarrow PM some, if you want to ride shotgun, drop me an Email from my home page at http://www.caspeed.com. It's Apache 2.0 btw :)

Tnx!

PHP is easy to setup! Just let RedHat do it for you ;)

I'm not a fan of RedHat in general, but for servers, they actually have something resembling sanity.
