I love Galore's confusion about Jack carrying Jenny's bag. In fact, her body language is priceless, as she tries to figure out why a male is doing manual labor...for a female, no less! The ears down, wringing her tail...

That scene was suprising. Poor Galore. She has "power" and "killer instinct" written all over her, yet she's trapped in that backward, clueless society.

Jack or Jenny, please get her a copy of Kipling's "Female of the Species" poem quick!

It is a suprising twist.

But this "backward, clueless society" is the source of ours (or technically, considering her African heritage, we share the same source).

And yet I tend to agree; you'd think that the culture whose heritage invented chivalry would have gotten further by now in the role of females in society.

Jack's act is based on chivalry; perhaps in 2066 he is an old throwback in his own culture. I hope not; I am a throwback along those lines myself.

Poor Galore looks so stressed and confused in the last panel! A male carrying the female's things? That just goes against... EVERYTHING!

I wonder though, in the world of 2066, would the British culture be so predominant as it is in ours. We have British culture with local variations (Australian, US, Canadian, New Zealand etc) But in 2066 wouldn't the various species have their own culturs?

We've see a little of the Giraffe and Lion culture (which ultimately comes from Africa no matter where the person was born). More Vulpine culture has been shown (I think Scott might be biassed toward foxes. Just a thought ) I suppose English foxes would behave the same, but with different, or funny depending on your point of view, accents.

I wonder what the culture of aussie animals would be? Not neccessarily laid back, either. Kangaroos would be gregarious, but wallabies would be more solitary. And Tasmanian Devils would be so antisocial they'd make great CEOs.

And in New Zealand, the predominant native culture would be bat-based. In our world the only mammals native to NZ are bats. NZ is a Very Cool Place indded.

Minor note:

Galore and the rest of the Rutherington-Smythe clan are far more
African than British.

Kenya, like Australia, was a British Colony (now member of the
British Commonwealth of Nations). It's true that Galore went to
school in England, but when women from cultures like that go to
school, it's pretty clear that they're to get an education, not
get ideas.

It's safe to say that Galore's life has been 'sheltered' from such
ideas.

Between the 1/22 and the 1/24 strips, I've noticed something "neat" about Jack and Jenny's relationship.

She argues with everything he says!

"I'm average." "No, you're not."

"Yeah, that's an accurate portrayl of Americans..." "No, it's not."

I'm under the impression that's where someone wants to go when they wish to disappear from the rest of society.

his Executive Officer, Borodin are discussing their hopes for what they will
find in America when they escape the Communist Dictatorship of the
Soviet Union. It's a touching scene where Borodin is timid, shy, afraid
and yet hopeful about going on to a freedom he has never known in
his life, but something we take very much for granted.

I've had enough sun. Yesterday hit 43C in the shade. My thermometre sensor is in a spot where it gets 15 minutes of sun late in the afternoon. During that 15 minutes it hit 54C

And people ask me "Why don't you go outside? Why do you sit in front of the computer all day?

And my answer is "Air Conditioning." 8)
