Literary exercise for the end of a long week: ten haiku in four minutes.

JACK BLACK

handsome little fox
far too sweet for the real world
...and he plays guitar

CECIL STEWART

high-tech giraffe guy
up all night with two women
...playing VR games

JENNY CURTIS

a vixen with wings
dealing with the scars of old
...wow, can she hula

baxtrr the figment
not a real person but
plays one on the web

your haikus are great
worthy of commendation
I commend your art

I might try my quill
but I thought better of this
for I cannot write

Great set of haikus, Bax. I couldn't help but notice that your sig is one word short (in second line) of being a haiku in itself. :)

I humbly offer the following:

VERONICA DESMOND

Nurse. Vampire bat.
A living contradiction?
Yes, but she saves lives.

A "Well done!" to friend Baxtrr. Indeed!
And a very enjoyable read.
Many kudos to you
(Of course one just won't do...
if you put 'em together, they'll breed).

As for me, I'm for rhymes or a sonnet--
Though haiku form has "cool" written on it,
And it looks good from here,
But I shoudn't--that's clear
So you'll have all this fun now. Doggone it!

Don't interpret this as any quirk.
I am greatly a fan of your work!
And I learn from it, too!
(Jack plays music? Whoo-hoo!)
So for me your haikus are a perk!

(Now I've added one more since the mood went
And I hope you'd agree, it's improvement
For I'm fully to blame
And mistyped Baxtrr's name.
An embarrassing sudden vowel movement!)

Sorry. Nineteen-nineties FurryMUCK moment, there.

Good eye, Desgar. But in fact it IS a haiku: in some cultures, "real" has two syllables. Read it out loud and you'll hear it flow.

A worthy effort. Substitute for the first line, "Nurse and vampire bat" and you'll have a haiku that scans legally, even if the second line clunks a little (sort of what you'd get if Gary Numan did haiku). :D

Oh, and thanks for the compliment, Olick...although you should probably ask Quill before picking him up.

And thanks for the limerix, LH. All well done. Yes, Jack plays guitar and sings...he's doing it the first time he sees Jenny ("The Mysterious Unnamed Vixen"). And do try to remember, it's bee ay ex tee double ar, okay? ;)

How am I supposed
To complete a thought in just
Seventeen syllab?

Hmmm. Depends on Olick's line.
Dex Lives No, I'm not the author. I just think you should read it.

I had to chuckle.

Well, now, son, I'm from the South. Down heah we say "real" with one sillible, real slow, ya see? And we say idea with jus' two sounds, not three like y'all do.

That kin be confusin:

Cop pulls a boy over, walks up to th' winder and says "Got any ID?"

The boy thinks fer a minit and finally says "'Bout whut?"

I'm into old dude stuff now, but was never into Numan, even when I spent more time In Cars.

Sorry, LH, but three years down in the Florida Panhandle and two more in the hills of Tennessee and my tolerance for the South has been pretty badly damaged. I once saw a guy point to "Fajitas" on a menu and order "Fe-JISTERS" for himself. Them's good eatin'.

Scotto is sick of hearing from me about Gary Numan. He's still out there and still going strong, having been through a lot of really bizarre phases of his career over the past 20 years or so. His last three albums are among the most disturbing I've ever heard; he has more issues with God than Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson combined, and is a far better lyricist than either of them.
