Some thoughts:

1)Nappy's rantings about wetware should be a cautionary tale about the abuse of wetware...

2)I suppose it's safe to assume his calling Jack a "mammal" is just the furry equivalent of "man" or "dude".

3)It's nice to know that there will be a Zig Zag for every generation. mmm...red rubber witch's outfit. :D

4)<pun>Is it appropriate to talk about faux reality in the presence of foxes?</pun>?

More thoughts:

2) Or possibly, Nappy has more of an affinity for machines than living creatures, and his addressing Jack as "mammal" parallels Megatron's contemptuous description of humans as "flesh creatures" in the Transformers saga.

5) "Better Than Life" -- a reference to the lethal, addictive VR game in Red Dwarf. BTL creates a fantasy world custom-tailored to the player's personality, so perfect that no one willingly disconnects. Unless, of course, you're a maladjusted social abberation like Arnold Rimmer, whose self-destructive subconscious mind cannot permit him to be happy.

6) So, would this be a descendent of ZigZag who is also in the entertainment industry, or are we looking at a very old video converted to VR format?

Heck, for all we know she's a trademark figure!

PRECISELY!

I don't know what Malcolm Earle (Max Blackrabbit) would think of this idea, but the spread of the Zig Zag character throughout the furry fandom has changed her from an individual to an icon (in the literal sense of the word). This has powerful implications, which I'm exploring in my furry novel...that is, when I have time to write these days.

In 2066, ZigZag is an icon, and a franchise like James Bond, Dr. Who,
and (I assume) Professor Dumbledor with many actresses picking up the
role of the Striped One over time. In the past 60 some years since the
original actress retired, many actresses have dyed their fur to match the
pattern of the original. The current incarnation of the famed actress is
rumored to be a coyote with zebra stripes put in her fur and an extra
fluffed out tail by some high priced Hollywood follicle engineers.

This has caused some confusion when Zig Zag has been "regenerated"
from time to time, and "reunion" episodes are occasionally made.
About 20 years ago, one came out with all kinds of special effects,
and stuff "The Five Zig Zags" though, it really should've been "The
Four Zig Zags" considering that one of them (Zig Zag number four)
only appeared in stock footage from an unreleased movie and
computer generated figure overlays.

Many people have a "Favorite Zig Zag" and it often varies from culture
to culture and species to species to see who favors which Zig Zag, but
The general concensus is that the first and fourth Zig Zags were among
the most popular.

Scott (Tom Baker Fan) Kellogg
PS. I *did* get permission to use Zig in the strip from MBR, and James
Bruner.

I had thought that maybe she was digitized by 2066, but I suppose that would be opening the ethical (and perhaps moral) Pandora's Box:

From a Wired interviewwith George Lucas:
"It's not a matter of who owns it, but what are you going to do with it? How are you going to relate to it? What happens if you fall in love with it? The question will be when do they start asking for their own rights? They'll say, 'I have as much right to be here as you do, and the problem with these humans is that are they are too dirty.' And they will."

From the same interview:
Well, one thing they will probably have 1,000 years from now is virtual personalities that are viable, bankable commodities. If somehow you had a 3-D digital Luke Skywalker, you could be putting him into movies for the next 100 years.
That's what I'm doing anyway. I can put Yoda in a hundred movies.

You can rent him out?
I can put him in the next Jim Carrey movie if I want to. I could work him just like an actor. Conceivably you can get to a point where you can create a character that anybody can use, and you can put him in any kind of an environment. Kermit and some of those characters are the same way. Bugs Bunny, though not quite digital, could be a digital character. He looks as much like a digital character as Woody or Buzz Lightyear does, and they would argue about who is the better looking of the group.

So would you say that Nappy is a equivalent of a combo between a hippie and a stoner?

Which is, of course, a faithful replay of the history of the seven actors to date that have played Dr. Who...aside from the coyote bit. :)

I'm investigating, in my story, what happens when this concept is applied as a test case in an area where one would think it couldn't work. More details forthcoming, but they may be a while, as this would be a major spoiler for a fairly late part of my story. (I anticipate people seeing it coming a mile off, but that doesn't mean I need to help them along. :P )
