HiRez Archive downtime

Postby Mako on Sat Nov 09, 2002 11:25 pm

I took the web server off line this PM to blow out about an inch of dust out of the server and my Dell desktop, they were exceptionally NASTY, yech. But blasting them with 90PSI air tidied things right back up, although I think they shut down McCarren International for 15 minutes until the dust blew out of the valley. :D

Anyways, on bollting everything back together, my five year old 4 port Belkin KVM hurled it's cookies on the mouse port, drat.

So I now have a desk full of mice and the server is back on line. I'll have to take things back down once I get a new KVM box and re-wire all boxes up to that.

It occured to me after bombing a liter of Mt. Dew that You all may (not) be curious to know just how much whip^H^H^H^H effort it takes all the gnomes here at MacroVision Industries to get the HiRez version of Scott's comic onto your monitor.

So here with out further delay due to verbostic bombastity is a macro sized 350K.jpg image of the MacroVision MacroFox Server Farm and Technology Center - West. Phear!

Gee, with all those mice, you should get Elka's chew toy
(The cat who sits on your Camero) to do something! ;)

Don't be - most of the stuff is either junk bought on the way cheap after my .bomb company failed or Frankenstien machines cobbled together on the cheap :) Except for the laptop, that I bought new, and my, errm, uhh, wallet, that's it, my wallet still aches from the experience...

Sharing Photos of Home Work Stations

Postby ZOMBIE USER 7666 on Sun Nov 10, 2002 7:43 pm

Here's my little playground...

Left side of the studio, where the artistic work takes place.

---{ }---

Right side of the studio, where you can see three of the four networked computers reside.

I love that mondo Grecian paperweight on the desk in the left side photo, makes my little kitch bookend look so puny :D

You can always tell the difference between a home where there is an Alpha Female in residence and one where it's just a batchelor pad too :)

Tnx for the peek into the White Pony Paddock :)

If anyone else feel like it, post a pic of your digital/artist/motorhead den to this thread, this could turn out to be an unexpected bit of fun!

*shrugs* Okay, why not.
THIS is my main workstation, which as you can see, is rather lacking. Only two computers.... I have another in the next room, but it's not exactly mine, and it's not the same anyway...

My desk, on the other hand, deserves mention. It exists pretty much so I can put stuff on it.

Well, all right.

This image of my desk area was before the addition of more floor to ceiling black bookshelves like the ones on the right. The desk is 3 meters long, for scale.

Familiar faces across the desk:
http://www.Howington.com/images/thevisit_color.jpg
(familiar faces appear courtesy of The Gneech, who holds copyright on all his work) (Amused side note: Tiffany told him about The Visit -- and described the shape of the desk very well -- but she's colorblind. The Gneech assumed reasonably that a woodgrained desk would be some shade of brown. It's actually a grey driftwood. ;)

The story of that visit -- in which colorblindness plays a part:

Folks are posting separate pictures of their computers. My computer is networked also.

There is a nice place to go for inspiration:

because it has:

More than you wanted to know...
