Glowing Cyborg What?

Glowing Cyborg What?

Postby Olick on Wed Oct 30, 2002 7:00 am

I have a question about todays strip.

Why is Scobee and (which one was it? I forget) Glowing in the first three panels.

I'm surprised that noone else has asked this...

BTW Scott. Interesting artwork on Jenny in the first panel of the strip...
She looks considerably different than before, and I can't tell why...

(maybe its just the high-Res version, THANKS MAKO  )

Me thinks I might be able to explain (if I understand the tech right). They are all wearing those special glasses (the ones I want). Me thinks those can be used to view a 3d image of someone, in a sort of conference mode. so, Jenny is seeing them in conference, but is not actually there next to them. and since they are projections, kinda glow. :)
Feel free to correct me if I might be wrong, this is what I gathered. :)

Airborne's got it right. 8)

Beth and Scobee are not physically present at the airstrip,
being back where the chase started. They're seeing the
events through their goggles, while Jenny, viewing them
through her goggles is physically there.

Hope that clears up the confusion!

I would have expected virtual screen with Beth and Scobee on them rather than i-conferencing.

Turning a 2d image in glasses into 3d is a relitavely easy concept. The way the brain processes visual images from the eyes, each eye really only sees a 2d image, it is just a form of triangulation that makes it 3d. so, all it would take is a 2d image on each lense, slightly seperated, to fool the eyes into seeing a full 3d image. kinda neat, really.
(is also why when wearing night vision goggles with only one lense, your depth perception is shot)
The only flaw I see (albiet not really a huge problem) is how the image of the talking individual is generated. seeing what he sees isnt to hard, just a microcamera on each side of the frame to generate the video footage to be displayed in the appropriate glasses.
An Avatar would be an easy way to fix this problem, unless Scott is seeing this from an entirely new perspective? (pun, lol)
