Hi All!

Don't know what's up with Keenspace today, but I've put up a backup site while it's down.

http://home.satx.rr.com/techfox/

For today it's probably a better site, because I also put up the musical backdrop for today's strip by Johnny Cash.

Sorry for all the trouble, but there's not a whole lot I can do about the main site.

Great idea Scott, I've bookmarked the new site, thanks for taking the time to put it on line for us.

The Johnny Cash tune was far different than I expected. Whodda thunk that the transition from coal burning to diesel train engines would have been such a big to-do that would inspire a group of people to come out and see it. Well, they were rural Texans, so ... ;-P

Story telling songs like that are pretty rare now adays. Kids are mostly into the bump 'n grind scratching and dancing tunes, the eternally stuck on re-play "Lovelovelove" stuff or wordless techno/house scene it seems.

I wonder if anyone else here is old enough to have put a coin on the rails...?

CYa!

I'm not old... But I did used to put coins on the rails. Ahhh the joy, pity I've lost all those coins though... *sigh* Quick hop over the fence, scour the track side for stuff, leave a penny watch a train pass then pick it up... *sigh* Those were the days...

Meh, music, I like what I like. Schostakovich rocks out! Which he does... or did... Well, his music still does...

No problem. It was a bit frustrating to see Keenspace come alive about an hour after I got it up, tho. Still, now that the HTML work is done, I can pop stuff up there, whenever I notice that the main site is down.

Glad you liked it. I got that one from James Bruner of "Zig Zag The Story" fame a while back (quite a while back, I think?) I'm not sure why, but I just like it a lot! The snare beat reminds me of train wheels. That and maybe that the theme is still "Gosh! Look! New neat big technology!" combined with the sense of wonder of a 6 year old.

Heh, the other day, I drove my brother's International Scout (with diesel engine) and it sounded like a steam engine! Sure loud enough!

I did it once or twice, but they sure weren't steam trains! I didn't dare do do it with more than a penny because I was told a nickel could de-rail a train!

Much later, I remember being shown a penny smashed into a quarter so that the copper was surrounded by (whatever metal is in quarters). I was very envious. But, as I said, it wasn't a steam train.

On the other hand, I guess I'm not old enough for them to have actually been copper pennies!

Johnny Cash is the only country music I can stand, and that happened by listening to a thrash band in Morgantown, WV that doubled as a country/rockabilly trio. They were... interesting, to say the least. It really hit me when they performed The Who's "Pinball Wizard" to the tune of "Folsom Prison Blues."

Johnny Cash kicks butt.

What album is "1947" off of, Scott?

<small>"The Wabash Cannonball" might also have worked in today's strip</small>

"Texas 1947" is on "Look At Them Beans".
(Great cover)
It's also on "Destination Victoria Station"
which is all songs about trains. I don't
think either album was re-released on cd.
