It's an interesting article about how an anti-clotting enzyme found in Vampire bat saliva shows promise as a treatment for strokes.

So perhaps a vampire bat nurse isn't such an incongruity. 8)

Wow! That's really neat! :o

It certainly makes sence. Anti-coagulants are really amazingly
helpful for heart disease patients. Of course, the dosage is
tricky because in case of an injury the anti-coagulant can cause
dangerous bleeding. That's why they tell you not to take aspirin
before doing sports and stuff.

It also got a little tricky for me a couple weeks ago. My father is
on Coumadin (an anti-coagulant) because of a few strokes he's had.
On Christmas eve he got knocked flat on his face on the concrete by
a neighbor's overly friendly dog. His mouth was cut up rather badly.
Because of the coumadin it took a long time for him to stop bleeding.
As soon as they heard he was on coumadin, doctors were afraid to
touch him, lest he bleed more.

To make the story short, we do have a very good doctor who helped
him, he's now doing much better, the neighbors have agreed to have
their insurance pay for the dental bills, and he's now sufficiently healed
that they can now work on him to fix his tooth.

But having a vampire bat as a nurse who could monitor and control
the dose of anti-coagulant in his system would've been a big help! :o
