Portmeiron
Portmeiron
Nice little Village. I wonder if Rover is there.
Although the town shown here isn't half as odd as the real Portmeiron. That's an odd place.

Jack's new look
I assume Jack's new "do" is supposed to make him look more Lionish? weeell, me thinks a fox was not ment to be a lion, on the outside anyway. he is right, he does look kinda silly with a mane.
I also guess if interogated, the question on everyones mind would got to be, "Who does #2 work for?"
sorry, couldnt resist.

yeah, I noticed the numbering right away. I wonder who is number one?
I wonder if it'll be one of the odd colored lions, like one with albinism or melanism (white or black).
Oh, and I don't think Jack looks too bad, but I think they'll have to send him to the gym to bulk up a bit.

Re: Portmeiron
Is true. My family spent a lovely day there this past March, exploring all there was to explore (that was open to the public; large sections of Portmeirion are roped off for the exclusive use of people living there in the short term). My seven-year-old daughter, who normally has the typical attention span of a media-burned 21st century American child, was utterly entranced for her entire visit and wished we could stay there far longer; it made the long drive through Wales (complete with a flat tire and an unscheduled, but lovely, stay in Dolgellau) worth it.batty den wrote:Nice little Village. FWIW, I am reading through threads but not writing much these days; work is in one of its monthly hellish periods and my four days in Canada and western New York didn't help things any.

Perhaps you saw it here...? But maybe you just imagined it...Olick wrote:This place and setup reminds me of something, but I can't quite place it.
It feels like a reference to something sci-fi. Something to do with conspiracy theories.

But I now remember a similar take-off on the Simpsons, Homer had made a website that exposed this organizations plans(though he did inadverently, by making stuff up) and was imprisoned on the Island, with a monacle wielding leader, and Capture bubbles.
So I'm guessing thier either both a take off from one thing, one's a take off of the other, or its an amazing coincidence(or is it?

Both of those examples are parodies of The Prisoner. Perhaps Scott's is, too, knowing his fondness for old SFish movies and TV shows. Jack's certainly a prisoner, but it's a little early to tell exactly where this is going.
Oh, and the town of Portmeirion, in northern Wales, is where the series was filmed. Apparently, most of what showed up in the episodes actually existed (I've only seen a very few episodes, myself).

Prisoner references run rampant in web comics. It's one of the fave references for a lot of authors. Scotto comes by it honestly, with some truly amazing Prisoner refs in the netfic he wrote back in the early 90s.Matt Trepal wrote:Both of those examples are parodies of The Prisoner. Portmeirion is well represented in the series, but there are many more wonders there than were shown on TV. All the exteriors were real, with a very few exceptions. None of the interiors were, with a very few exceptions (all the interiors were shot on a sound stage in London). There's a very good book on the subject that we bought at The Prisoner Shop, which is located in the building that in the series was Number Six.
