Remember, Krow, you're not paying for the food as much as you're paying for the cute girls in cute waitress uniforms.
(Though I imagine beef would be expensive as all hell, considering you're on an ISLAND. You might consider switching to chicken, it's probably cheaper.)

I was kinda dissapointed by the waitresses, actually. The uniforms were cute, but the girls themselves just seemed average. One of the waitresses didn't even bother smiling, which seemed strange to me. Even McDonald's employees are super cheerful here.
There was Anna Miller's cosplay at Comiket, but I didn't bother taking a photo. You can see them in the background of one of my other photos tho.
I ordered a plate of sandwiches the other time I was there, $12 for turkey clubs.

That's close to being just plain WEIRD. Moreso for me, though, I guess... in Texas, or at least the area of it I live in, good service is the rule, and bad service is the exception to it. I've gotten to where I'm almost reluctant to leave the state because the service in restaurants and other public areas can be so bad. Maybe you ran into a waitress that doesn't like gaijin...?
Meh. Well, turkey is an American dish, after all... it's probably either imported, or there's not many turkey farms on Japan.I ordered a plate of sandwiches the other time I was there, $12 for turkey clubs.
Remember, Krow, island. Cattle take up a pretty good-sized amount of grazing area, even for a fairly small herd... an island can't support that many. So there are either going to be very few local places it's raised, or all the beef will be imported... expensive either way. Chickens, however, don't require all that much space and can be raised fairly easily. And Japan's got TONS of fishing. Chicken or fish are gonna be cheaper than most everything else.
Of course, you're right, Japan is very expensive in general. But the things that are gonna be most expensive, as I understand from reading (and you've probably discovered just looking around):
Fruit
Vegetables
Milk
I have, at least, been to Hawaii a few times, and the same is true there. You just gotta think "island" when considering the expense of a number of items.
Oh, getting back to Anna Miller's... I understand your pain. Usually me and my dad make an excursion to Hooters about once a year... and there are some really hot girls there, it's true. But it's utterly disappointing how many of them do their utter best to downplay their sex appeal... the last few times, we saw waitresses who had on spandex bicycle shorts under their pantyhose, and the Hooters trademark short-shorts over that.
Now, I understand that most women don't want to be ogled while they're trying to do their jobs... but if you're not one of those women, why get a job at HOOTERS?! Why not go down the road and apply at Don Pablo's or Macaroni Grill or something? It maketh no sense...

Maybe her dog died the day before or something, I dunno. While Anna Millers isn't at the same level of Hooters, I was hoping for friendlier service than a regular fast food joint. Maybe I just got a bad location. I'd actually like to go again, the pie was great and is something I've missed since I came to Japan.
A few years back Canadian turkey farmers were trying to sell turkey to Japan. They thought turkey sashimi would be a great idea.... salmonella be damned!

MegaTokyo is one of the absolute worst places to learn about Japan
Piro's taken the most extreme stereotyped animes, mangas, and hentai dating sim games and condensed them into some kinda uber-otaku fantasy.
It's really more of a family type place, the atmosphere is most like a roadside diner. The uniforms really are cut around the breasts like in anime, but compared to what passes for normal here it's not that big a deal. I think half the reason Anna Millers has become a part of anime culture is because it's open 24 hours, perfect for animators who work late into the night.

Which is why I said I read between the lines. n.- Of course, Piro's off in his own little world... I mean the real Piro, not the comic Piro. What I meant was, he'd be sitting in an Anna Miller's going "Oh my god, this is so cool, they are so cute, the waitresses are SO cute, I wanna sketch one, wai wai wai!", and completely getting off on it the same way high school guys get off on going to Hooters.Krazy Krow wrote:MegaTokyo is one of the absolute worst places to learn about Japan :) Piro's taken the most extreme stereotyped animes, mangas, and hentai dating sim games and condensed them into some kinda uber-otaku fantasy.
Let's see... I mentioned little mister sad girls in snow in my journal awhile back and got some interesting responses...
Ah, yes, here we go, November 22:

Well...that came out wrong. I mean, I have a difficult time imagining that he'd want to have sex. I'd be half-willing to believe that his biggest fantasy is dressing his girlfriend up in a school uniform and sketching her.
