Sleg is a swear word I made up for the dragons in my comic to use. I wanted to come up with a something that could fit a dragons lifestyle and history. At first I was considering the word 'Slag' because of its fiery nature, but that is often associated with science fiction comics and I didn't want that associated with mine.
So I decided to use 'Sleg'. I have come to associate Sleg with an actual thing that would be unique to dragon society. Curse words are invariably based on things or instances which a society finds disgusting, annoying, horrible, or disatisfactory. Common instances in our society are the dreaded four letter words that are taboo for young children to say. Things such as hell, mindless procreation, and fecal matter have found thier way into common swear words.
Then the challenge lay in front of me, what would be disgusting or unsavory to a dragon that would also not be capable for humaniod life forms? Then it hit me. Dragon Eggs. More specifically, the destroying (accidental or deliberate) and the mess left behind. It is possable for sleg to be the leftover slime, shell, and fluids when the baby dragon actually bursts out of it's shell.
Saying Sleg you in dragon society is taken as saying that you should never have been born, or survived the birth process. Slegging, or Slegger could describe a person who either destroys the egg or has to clean up the mess left behind. Meanwhile Sleg on it's own just describes a huge mess, very appropriate for bad situations that will invariably happen.
I designed the word sleg to be versitile in it's meaning and usage. So now you know.
Whew.
------------------
ANYTHING is possible...within limits.
Those limits are set on ourselves by ourselves.
The trick is getting around them...
Find The Wings Of Change!
[This message has been edited by Elevenbane (edited 12-17-2001).]

On a not-very-related note...
"Smeg" is used as a curse word by Dave Lister of Red Dwarf fame.
------------------
Crewman: "Sir! An enemy ship is approaching! Can't scan its defenses!"
Captain: "Very well... ARM PHASE CANNON!"

Yah...I at first thought "Sleg" was simply a modification of "Smeg."
------------------
