... perhaps that is why a device which fires temporary arrows is called an "elfshot" pistol?

True, but at the same time I'm sure anyone who has an Elephant rifle is aware of the creature whose hide it is designed to pierce.

That, or they appreciate a gun that can break your arm by simply firing it incorrectly...

LOTS of uses for that kind of gun that don't involve killing Elephants... Wink.

Just had an unpleasant thought about where this conversation is heading. I wonder if they call it an "elfshot" pistol for the same reason we call a certain shell "buckshot".
