Astral's sensible guide for staying alive as an adventuer:
Part7b- Villages
1: Don't do anything to piss-off the locals.
2: Pitchfork wilding mobs are never a good sign. Avoid at all cost.
3: If a situation is nothing to do with you or was never your problem in the first place, don't get involved. Period.
4: If the locals say "We don't like outsiders", don't question it and under no circumstances try to investigate the reason why.
5: Just because someone 'says' they're inocent, dosn't meen they won't rob you blind anyway.
6: Always hold your own opinon of a situation, but keep it to yourself unless abserlutly nessesery.
7: If you abserlutly have to selflessly forfill a quest to help/safe some-one/village that you bearly even know, at least make sure that you know the facts of the situaton before getting up to your neck in someone elce's horse dung.
8. NEVER trust any one who has far too many vouls in their name, no matter how much they pay you.

Wow....did not see that coming. Thought she would be some sort of....well, goblin thief thing. She still might be a thief however. Dont let the pretty green eyes fool you. Although I do like the new term "road apples."

Okay, I know Quentyn is a rookie, but why did he stupidly cut down the ONLY rope that was VISIBLY holding up the cage instead of the one that was holding the door closed?

Either that, or we get to see Quentyn use some nifty lux tricks to scare the villagers off.

I hope she can run. Quentyn has his boots to outrun the larger humans but can She outrun them? Quentyn may need to use some Lux to give them a head start.

Road apples is a new term? Geez, what a bunch of city slickers.
It's what horses leave behind 'em, of course. Term's been around as long as there've been roads, I think.

Yep. Learned the term from my folks, mostly mom's side since she's handled horses before.

So they're basicly saying the same thing, except Quentyn opts for the more dangerous species. Somehow, "dragon dung" seems to fit the feeling of this situation more, because it's the same feeling you'd have if you actually found fresh dragon dung...

Is THAT what fewmets means? I thought it was some nonsensical thing RH just made up for his characters to say in place of a real cussword, like "gorram" or "frell." O_o

Hmm.. neither one of them seem to have any elf-control. Kids these days... no elf-respect.
We'll have to send 'em some elf-help books.

Fewmet is the droppings of an animal, by which the hunter identifies it.It is mentioned in books like "The Sword in the Stone" by T.H. White
More specifically, it is the dropping of a dragon. (Reference Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wind in the Door", and others.)
-- From Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fewmets
Derived from the earlier spelling 'fumet'.
Which, interestingly, not only means 'dung', it can also mean a ragout of partridge and rabbit braised in wine.
So, when you say 'this food tastes like $#it', you can really mean it.

elf, elf she's being repressed.
Now you see the repression inherent in the system!

Take another look; there was no door. Effectively, it was less a cage and more a box. Here are the options available for freeing someone from it:
1. Cut away the thongs holding a number of bars. Not a bad idea, but Quentyn can only reach the tops of the bars; the floor of the box would fall away before the captive could get out.
2. Lower the cage to the ground, then cut the things that bind the bars. Best-case scenario, and no use to Quentyn... story of the unlucky bricklayer, anyone?
3. Cut the cage loose. Have the captive get off the floor of the cage, allowing it to absorb most of the impact. Jump clear as it falls. (This was the plan. Unfortunately, when the half-elf distracted him, he didn't jump free. The cage still absorbed most of the impact, which is why she only has bruises.)
Clearer?
Yours truly,
The wolfish,
Wanderer

Are you sure it's that? I'm just glad that Quentyn's not anywhere NEAR to being related to her. I can already hear the whispered accusations...
"Quentyn's abusing his elf!"

This is starting to sound like a whole lot of masochistic elf abuse.
