The evil wizard's full name translates into something like "Evil Father of Monsters" or "Father of Evil Monsters". This is a kooky Racconnan name. Others are something like "Quentyn son of Quinn of Freeman Downs". I find it hard to believe a mother would saddle her kit with a name like this. Could it be that he is so hated and feared a villain that the Racconnans WILL NOT EVEN SPEAK HIS TRUE NAME?

Given that his self-chosen epitaph was "Reviled I live; evil I deliver", I'd bet on his taking that name of his own volition.

Actually, I think it was something more like "Reviled I lived for of evil I did deliver".

Not sure about it. Let me go translate the thing on his door again...

And no, his name did not mean "Father of Monsters". That was his title after the SOB was caught experimenting on his fellow Rac Conans. He deserved what he got, and we can only hope his disciples are caught and brought to justice.

Possibly. But before we start wondering if Rosad is the Rac Cona equivalent of Voldemort (You Know Who) it is worth mentioning that is common in ancient times to not name something you fear. For instance, the origin of the word 'bear'? It comes from b-wolf (also the origin of the name Beowulf). People were afraid that if you said the true name of the bear, it would appear, so everyone called it b-wolf instead.

Also think of the ancient restriction on saying Jehovah.

The Greek historian Herodotus (sp?) once wrote about a golden bowl in Delphi that some scyophant carved the name of the Spartans--who had just conquered the city--in order to gain their favor. Herodotus wrote:

"...one of the Delphians wrote the inscription upon it, desiring to gratify the Lacedemonians*; and his name I know but will not make mention of it.

In that case, it's deliberately not recording a name as an insult, not out of fear.

In Rosad's case it could be a little of Column A and a little of Column B.

I was going on the "too feared to be named" idea, but yeah that is a more accurate comparison.

IF I remember correctly Rossad B. was NEVER called "The Father of Monsters", given that the title was already taken. Or rather some newsscript might almost certainly at one time or another said that he deserved the title, since the thing it belonged to didn't actually exist and he did.
"The Father of Monsters" was something that Rossad beleived existed which all other monsters (creatures?) sprang from. His search to define or locate it or whatever was what drove his research.

Which strikes me as a curious parallel of the Gnostic heresy.

Speaking of which: The idea of God delegating the creation of the earth to other, lower entities (Father of Monsters = Demiurge?) strikes a false note with me, even if we take it that it was meant as an explanation of why human beings are so f**ked up. Plus there's way more esotericism in the Gnostic belief system than is necessary - they make the Masons look like masters of clarity, and hell, anyone can get into the Masons.

It is only coincidental that he had named the hypothetical entity that created monsters in the world "the Father of Monsters" in his notes.... though I suspect that in some perverse way he was flattered to be given that title by his enemies.

Also, because I just remembered about the Salamanders from the Uber CD, I withdraw the statement that "the Father of Monsters" DIDN'T exist. It doesn't seem likely in my mind that it existed, but it is POSSIBLE.
