the reason why most accidents occur within 10 miles of home, is because most drivers do most of their driving within 10 miles of home. Pure random accidents would make most accidents occur within 10 miles of home if you spend most of your driving time there.

but another factor is that a higher percentage of your driving is done close to home, because it is close to your home.

It's kinda like why do you alway find what you are looking for in the last place you look? Because you found it and you stop looking.
