Are there any decent sci-fi shows out there these days? Haven't watched television in a while- though that may be a good thing.

I'd recommend Battlestar Galactica, myself. Good writing, great characters and wonderful effects.

Babylon 5 was pretty good when it was on, check out 'Parlament of Dreams' in season 1 for some non-snarky 'we have evolved beyond religion' treatment of faith in Sci-Fi.

Big Battlestar Galactica fan here. In my uninformed opinion, it seems to be the most realistic and believable sci-fi show ever. A really awesome show. Also, Stargate SG-1 is a good one, longest running sci-fi show ever.
