Unfortunately without the resistance of water it may not be practical but looks fun!
I wonder if this Ishmael wants to hunt for a great white whale over in Nip & Tuck

This story reminds me of the Patrick McManus story of Rancid Crabtree putting a sail on the Ice Fishing shack to move it across the Ice so they would not have to pull it. Both stories had the same result.

I could imagine a sail-powered levcraft could achieve some pretty remarkable speeds--those "boats" they use out on the ice (basically a sail on a T-frame with skates at each end) can hit 60+ MPH even in a light wind.

I actually kinda like it, Ralph taking a break from the main storyline for a bit. kinda like when sprite comics sometimes break for actual drawing in their art makes for more variety, and in this case humor.

Whaa! New board colour scheme! I think I'm blind!
OK, seriously, looks good. About time I persuaded some other board admins to ditch their bog-standard skins too.
Sail-powered lev carriages probably sounded like a brilliant idea at the time. Unfortunately real life has a way of ruining brilliant ideas.

Bah. The old one worked. The change has made it not play nice with Firefox - for some reason I can't log in. I had to dredge up my old Netscape browser to talk to the damned thing.

Gee I am using Firefox 1.5.01 and it works fine for me. I had to log in again after the change over but once I did that it works fine.
Maybe make sure you have the right password.

No....
The reason those ice-sailers can move at those speeds(faster than the wind) is the skates.
The skates function as the keel on a boat, in keeping the craft on a straight course, but without the drag normally associated in a keel.
Without a keel, the best you could do is ALMOST windspeed(you lose a little bit no matter what you do) and to go the way the wind blows.
Remember, the sails on a modern sailboat or ice-sailer works on similar pinciples as aircraft wings, and NEEDS somethng to balance it.
(I suggest picking up 'Sailing for Dummies' if anyone wants to read more about it. It's a good book)

It looks like there is only one fixed sail on that craft. I'd suggest they put a second, movable one on so they can steer it into the wind, but then, that would be tacky.

Wonder what this will deal with, seems to be set in Sanctuary. Wonder if its dealing with the Students or the Gangs... hmmm... Maybe the newspaper guys.
Or it might just be a one panel story. Was hoping for more than that. We shall see.

Judging by the "A Brief Interlude" in the first panel and the "Fin" in the last panel, I would say that this is just a one-shot filler while our hero tries to recover from Rahan and Co.'s show.
I can just see Quentyn negotiating another case in the near future...
Quentyn: ...and I will sneak in and disable the security *snerk* uh, wards *choke**snerk*, ahem, excuse me, and.. (Quentyn falls down laughing hysterically while his client looks on, totally confused

)

Thsi was supposedly actually tried back int teh 1870s because some guys didn't want to pay for train fair, so they took a wagon anda sail. Ran into the same problem, forgot to figure out a method of stopping, didn't realize it till about half an hour into the trip though.....

Took three days, and then it just started working. I expect to have to relog in every now and then, and I made sure of the password first thing - but for those three days it simply refused to acknowledge the login. Weird, eh? I'm on rev 1.7.6

You're not just cutting edge, you're BLEEDING edge, my friend!
Reminds me of something a friend once said to me:
"We're slitting our wrists on the cutting edge of technology."
Makes you wonder...
