What, if anything, does Rahan do?

Post by Nikas_Zekeval »

For work I mean. Quentin has his Questoring, how ever uneven the business might be, his friends are learning/apprentice in trades, artifacing and bard, the neighbor's kid is an apprentice tinsmith IIRC, but Rahan out of all the Rac'conans we see of Quentin's age doesn't have an obvious job. Heck even the RedCaps and Royals could be considered 'employed' if you considered theft as a way to make (or steal) a living.

The only time we see him 'working' is when Quentin (litterally) runs into him in Sancturary where he is babysitting an iron shipment. Meribeth complains he's 'drinking on his daddy's tab', and there is all the free time he has to harass Quentin. Does he work at all? Or is he like the CEO's kid that is given a make work job that is a pretty title and paycheck, but doesn't require all that much attention, and often runs better in his abscense?

Rahan *is* the tinsmith's apprentice if I remember right, or, along these lines, if I remember he's a learnin' his daddy's buisness of being an ore monger, apparently one way to get rich quick in a socieoty without a large ammount of metal ore. If I rember right he's also suppose to be a merchant's apprentice as well.

Granted that still apparently leaves him time to go messing around in other people's affairs.

Iiiii ... didnt think so? Till now i thought it was just somone else, but i'm not so sure now :-? The only thing i had to go on was that Rahan says he was his father's apprentice rather than someone else's.

I'm not 100% sure (call it about 66.6%) but, all the peices fit together, I think that was Rahan's daddy that Quinn (Q's Daddy) was rubbing Q's exploits with the swamp into, and if we follow the line of reasoning through that.....

Again, not 100% sure on this however.

No, Rahan is not the Tinsmith's apprentice.

Rahan is the metal-monger's son... and we're yet to see Rahan's father.

In that case it's likely that at least for now Rahan has a meaningless, do-nothing job which basically amounts to an "allowance" from daddy.
^ the above was me sounding like I know WTF I'm talking about.

A black hole where daddy's money disappears into.

Darn it, Ralph...

Is Rahan's grandfather Gilder or not?

I'd bet on Gilder but if not, it's got to be one of Gilder's allies on Council, one of the silent ones.

Hmm, looks like based on todays comic (snicker) Rahan got a lesson in growing up, aka paying the consequences.

AN idea that hit me after late last night, could his pranking have been 'on the clock' and his stoogies employees in his father's business? More reason to take the damages out of his hide.

Or as Emperor Gregor Vorbarra put it in 'A Civil Campaign', "Gefory, make a note. This is the third time this month the busy Lt. Vormorcrief has negatively come to Our attention in matters of politics. Remind us to find him a place where he might be less busy."

ACKK!! Another Miles fan? Yup, his highness shoved way up in Camp Frostbite, the real aquiviliant of some backwater in Alaska. But who is Rahan related to?! Wanna know! Is he related to Gilder?

And why not? Miles is the same sort of protagonist as Quentyn, he ought to appeal to the same folks.

For those who might not have found them yet - the Vorkosigan cycle books by Lois McMaster Bujold. Highly recommended.

Only 'highly' recommended?

Those books belongs on the same shelf as David Drake's books, the stories about Honor Harrington, and... well... That fills out that shelf...

Hmm, I liked Ekaterin in ACC. Causally taking the head off (if only figuratively) a Vor that annoyed her and threatened her family? Yeah, that's all the proof you need she's Lady Vorkosigan material.

"Shopping? Not an invitation the son of my mother gets often." One of the better Miles lines. :)

I meant "another one?!!" in a good way. My favorite quote is where says to himself "THAT is why men follow this man."

Highly recommended is as high as my superlatives go. And what about Weber's Bahzell stories? And Ringo?
